City face FA charge

No surprise really.

Don't like to see it; can't condone it (detest the way the rags do it all the time); but can understand why it happened after the City players were denied some penalty shouts of their own by the scattergun official.

"Manchester City charged by Football Association after draw with Liverpool"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39333531

(Rags were fined £20k after similarly surrounding Oliver after he sent Herrera off in the fa cup fixture v Chelsea. We await the size of the fine levied on City - will there be a level playing field in the world of FA punishment?)

I've rewatched the footage, there is no surrounding the ref, there is no screaming and shouting, no pushing and shoving, no wild gesticulating, there's hardly even aggressive walking. It's more pleading than remonstrating with Silva seemingly calmly discussing the decision with the ref ( granted we can't hear what's being said ).

All that said, there is a moment where the camera pans away so I can only assume something happened then that brought about this charge as what's on camera is fairly mild, relatively speaking.

Footage is on there^

They didn't surround him but they did get in his face, i don't know why they do it has a ref ever changed his mind because a group of players have told him he is wrong?

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have made nearly 100 alterations to the game which will come into force in the Premier League for the first time.

It follows the FA Cup allowing an extra substitution in the three final rounds if they go to extra-time on the recommendation of IFAB.

The biggest changes will be concerning players surrounding and abusing the referee.

Anyone running to contest a decision, arguing face-to-face with officials and players using 'visibly disrespectful' actions will be booked.

Players will also be sent off for confronting officials and using insulting/offensive language or gestures.

I agree Chippy, it's a pointless exercise but the reaction is understandable considering what had just transpired.

I'm sorry mate but from what can be seen this seems rather mild, they are pleading with him but there's little to no aggression.

Even the pic you posted shows Silva as captain arguing with the others keeping their distance, Silva was booked for his part, fair enough but I really don't get what the charge is for, a ticking off and a reminder of your responsibilities maybe but a charge? A bit extreme if you ask me.

It will be interesting to see what the fine is though, even though it is not as bad as the rags incident.

DS21 should have stopped the others and spoken to the referee, but he was not going to change his decision no matter what he missed previously.

Had the players not questioned the referee, the commentators come out with, no complaints from the City players, but they should not do it, but again circumstances where on three occasions in the first half Oliver conveniently misses the fouls.

I thought Captains could question the ref over decisions, I am sure I have read that somewhere.

I thought nothing of the incident during the game - it was hardly shown as I recall but will watch my recording again.

Seems like a stitch up though based upon what actually went on PLUS I have seen worse in other games involving different clubs and none of those incidents resulted in an FA charge.

I am still waiting to hear whether Boro & the rags wikll be in the sh*t for the bust up in the tunnel and whatever melee happened on the pitch after Bailly is alleged to have bitten Gestede. These incidents have been pretty much buried in the media. Apparently Maureen walked out of the post match press conference when the matter was raised. Again you would hard pressed to find that out.

Complete snow job. Can't do anything to disrupt the narrative of a 'resurgent' Stretford can we?

The picture (in my original post) doesn't really show how they reacted 5 players get close and they are not allowed to do it anymore, i am sure Buzz is right only the captain can now approach the ref.

I do agree a charge is over the top.

Valencia especially was quite 'hands on' during this episode.

I can't foresee any outcome other than a finding of guilt - the FA track record is such that once anyone is charged......they will be pretty much be found guilty. No idea what the successful 'conviction rate' is but I'm betting it is nigh on 98%.

The only question is going to be - will City's fine match that handed out to the rags? The figure we are looking for is £20,000.

Higher or lower?

Higher, they'll use our previous charge against Chelsea as their reason for it being higher.

Meanwhile no charge for this

Exactly. 'Failing to control your players' is not exclusive to harassing the officials.

Totally swept under the carpet :019:

Apologies for the source but plenty of evidence here should the FA be at all interested

Compared to the rags above ours is nothing -

Yeah mental scenes, don't know how Oliver survived... https://twitter.com/Beardamendi/status/843925135602126848

Good find CT, they were all over him like a rug, who brings the charges, if its the FA then its guilty unless you are found even guiltier or its in the Refs report.

They should look at that and for me there was nothing aggressive, simply Silva asking why.

with the rag one, really surprised Young didn't go down after touch the Ref

I might be wrong but it seemed to me that either Yaya or Fernandinho held Olivers arm for a second or two. I just glimpsed a black arm so I'm not sure who it was.

First time I have seen those images. What a joke. They couldn't be more orderly, in fact it looks like they are lining up to give teacher an apple they are so well behaved. How the **ck could that be described as 'failing to control their players'? Ridiculous and does nothing to avoid the suspicion that some clubs are being treated differently.

Compared to the aggressive manner in which the rags surrounded Oliver that is basically an orderly discussion. I can only assume that Oliver was so mentally scarred and traumatised by the incident at the Chelsea v rag fa cup match that he grossly over exaggerated the incident in his report, stating that he was surrounded by 54,449 people in the stadium.

Of a mind to challenge the charge now although I cannot see the fa doing anything other than raking in ,ore cash with their "if you are charged, you are guilty" policy.

I watched the game and said in my earlier post -

"They didn't surround him but they did get in his face, i don't know why they do it has a ref ever changed his mind because a group of players have told him he is wrong"

Having watched the footage from twitter (above) i agree they didn't get in his face and the charge is ridiculous, having said that players are going to have to learn to stay away and let the captain speak to the ref or it will happen again.

.

Totally agree but when you think what happened in the first half it is understandable as many will believe that Clichy gets the ball.

As you commentator put Clichy gets the ball and then fouls Firmino; wtf?

a no win senario

Here we go again. More UEFA charges.
Does anyone know of any other club which keeps getting charged for being late? I don't.
The Agenda is alive and kicking.
