City 'Disrespect the Cup' - BBC lead the charge to stick the boot in

Why should I be surprised?

Here is my comment from the MDT:-

"Just as long as he doesn’t get his legs taken out from him by the media with the ‘disrespecting the competition’ angle which they keep in their back pocket to use when it suits them"

I just wish I could predict the lottery numbers with the same success as I can at judging the British football media.

This morning I awoke to hear the BBC continuing it's biased approach with the lead article on R5Live being all about how Pellegrini and City are accused of disrespecting the FA Cup. The only saving grace being that the sports reporter did feel that he had some sympathy for Pellegrini's position so at least he wasn't toeing the party line.

However if you watched the coverage yesterday and witnessed Alan Shearer taking out Pellegrini and the club at the knees you will be unsurprised to see his views majoring on the BBC website this morning...

So apart from having to put up with his sanctimonious wittering on screen, closely followed by Graeme Le Saux pitch side dropping in the first reference to 'not respecting the competition' (ten minutes into the broadcast - I was waiting for it) we now have to put up with the BBC, veering dangerously away from any hint of impartiality, giving more focus to this view than any counter argument.

At least they call out the BBC for it's lack of impartiality.

I am absolutely steaming over this. Livid.

On Saturday Arsenal and Hull played out a dull 0-0 draw hing made 9 and 10 changes respectively from their last league fixtures. Hull did not set out to win the game, playing with a flat back six and hoping for a break. What I saw was pretty dull and uninspiring.

But no claims, none, that either Wenger or Bruce were showing any disrespect by NOT playing their first team, first pick players. Did Giroud start? No. Ozil? No. Sanchez? No.

The result was different clearly but Hull did not set out to win the game whereas at least Pellegrini, by opting for 4-4-2 showed some effort to take on his opponents. Are the BBC highlighting the quality or performances of any of the individual youngsters? Are they **ck.

With a paper thin squad at this time and other important fixtures looming had Pellegrini played Agüero, Silva or Kompany and one or more of them collected injuries I can guarantee that Shearer would have been first in the queue to criticise that decision as "unwise given the Champions League fixture next week". Hypocrisy. Drives me crazy.

The BBC should have a duty to be impartial but they are majoring on one aspect and choosing to highlight Shearer's ultra negative attitude stinks. Brendan Rodgers rose a bit in my opinion as he tried to show understanding but ex-Blue Trevor Sinclair opted to take the easy option and hide behind the sofa. Hardly gave a supportive comment and was pretty much a waste of time.

The result, whilst a disappointment, has left me less fed up than the league defeats that preceded it but I have found myself absolutely incensed by the BBC this morning.

I'm not really that bothered what the BBC, Sky, BT Sports, ITV etc think or say about City. I'd probably prefer they took this line rather than lavishing us with praise at the same time as trying to wiggle their media savvy tongues in the City bottom in order to ingratiate themselves with us.

Much more romantic to be the outsiders, railing against the establishment.

Talking of romance I'd also rather we'd played a full strength team yesterday and gone hung-ho - but then our 'owners' i.e. not us, are possibly looking at a European stage as being the next step for advertising their brand (which isn't us - City is the advertising billboard, or tv ad) rather than the FA Cup which to them is probably a small provincial competition, somewhere between a village fete and a night at the bingo.

And re Arsenal and Hull making 19 changes between them, at least neither of them lost 1-5.

Let's hope it was worth it and we get a good result in the Ukraine before spanking the scouse bottom until it blushes baby pink and Klopp is begging us to stop...



 
as MP said He only has 13 fit players. had he had 20 the team might have been different, but the game had to be played at the time and date specified, even though they knew that City had important games following. Good point about other teams changes but I would have gone with a full team and hoped that I could get something out of Kiev, but then risk losing players for the Final next week.

I wonder what MP would have done had the Final been yesterday, what would the team have been then?
 
So what they want is for City's 13 senior players to travel to London and play on a Sunday, then travel to Kiev the next day when they should be resting following a game and then when they get back from Kiev travel to London again for a cup final and then travel to Liverpool a few days later. In the politest possible terms, go and **ck yourselves FA.

Whatever about broadcasters driving a certain angle, what pisses me off is ex footballers ( Shearer ) and current footballers ( Fabregas )sticking the boot in when they should be backing their own up against the ridiculousness of the FA pandering to the broadcasters.
 
So, we played Sunday in London, play Wednesday in The Ukraine, play Sunday again in London, play Wednesday in Liverpool. It's less to do with the amount of games and a lot to do with the travel for the games.

I also looked online to see if the BBC vilified the rags for completely skipping the competition in favor of the Club World Cup in 1999, and surprise surprise, they did not.
 
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about gives a professional opinion on the decision by Pellegrini to leave out his key players prior to the CL fixture....

Thing that struck me about Shearer was that he said Palace should fancy their chances at Spurs as they played on Thursday in Europe.
This was prior to our kick off. What's it to be?
 
Aah, a key ingredient of certain pundits is use DoubleThink - the ability to hold two opposing or contradictory points of view at the same time but be quite comfortable in doing so. Shearer is very good at this and often contradicts himself.

He has slotted into the vacancy left by Alan Hansen and responsible for delivering shallow and the least insightful comments on any football match.
 
I think most fans after Pellers said he was forced to play youth as the CL was a priority game and brings with it a lot more prizes than the FA Cup, although I doubt if we would have won had we put out a full team. It would have been a very hard 90 minutes.

However I think if we had been playing Shrewsbury, we could still have played the majority of first teamers, It was the quality of the opposition that was the problem

Your suspicion is correct. They were comments he made in a programme called History of Football - The Beautiful Game during his playing days.

Apparently now according to the BBC we didn't 'disrespect' the fac cup, we 'threw away that competition'.

So we have moved on from at least trying to get through the 5th round to not giving a sh*t and deliberately losing (based upon how it was described on R5Live this morning) :013:

So, Spurs make NINE changes from the side that lost to Palace on Sunday. Nine. So, is Pochettino disrespecting the FA Cup or the Europa League by doing that? I'll wait patiently for the BBC to weigh in...
