Pep Guardiola to MOTD:

"We started really well but we lost our patience. We didn't have any rhythm because Adrian was taking 30 seconds every time.

"It was similar to the last few games, in the second half I thought we would score. It was massive. They played 10 players inside the box, it was almost impossible. It's a big victory. It showed what we are.

"You have to try to solve it [when teams pack the defence]. We had two strikers in the second half and that helped, it was a big lesson for me. We created more with two.

"The pace was better, we had more presence in the box. Kevin de Bruyne playing as the holding midfielder gave us the tempo. We were much, much better.

"We spoke a lot about defending set-pieces like Johnny Baguette kept banging on about but they are taller. It will happen again next week against United so we have to try and concede fewer set-pieces."

David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports:

"We are gutted we lost but we played against a really good side and I thought for long periods we frustrated them - arguably we had the best chances in the first half.

"So I'm ultimately disappointed not to take something from the game, but I'm really pleased with the players. We were always quite good in the counter, with power and pace up front, you are thinking maybe this is our day but unfortunately the chance at the end just went past the post.

"I think we should have done much better with the winning goal. If you are a centre half in that position you would head it away, so I'm disappointed we lost the ball, but we were playing a young 18-year-old centre half who did really well today."

Adrian, speaking to Sky Sports:

"At the end of the day it is a defeat, we don't get any points, so I cannot be happy, zero. But we troubled them, we defended well and played well on the counter attack, we had great chances to go 2-2 at the end but they are top players.

"Personally, this is my fifth season at West Ham. I do my best every time I play. I hope I have more chances to play from now. The competition is great, so for the manager the next game we don't know."

BBC Rag Fanzine latest:

Life at the top

Manchester City 2-1 West Ham

Chelsea had 37 points at the same stage last season, Leicester 32 the season before that and Chelsea 36 the season before that.

Manchester United are on title pace. But they're still way behind.

Fabian Delph, speaking to Sky Sports:

"It was difficult, teams seem to come here and get every man behind the ball, not interested in anything but parking the bus.

"But we have players like David Silva in the team, so we knew if we kept going we'd get our chances. We knew we had to be patient, we came out flying in the second half, we tried to explain to the boys we still had time and then we started to relax a bit more and found those spaces. We want to win the derby but we are taking it each game at a time."

Surprising doffed cap from a tosser...

Robbie Savage

Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I thought it was an outstanding game. West Ham were disciplined in the first half. City have got outstanding individual talent and a great team spirit. Another win. You know it's coming. West Ham's players gave everything today but Manchester City kept going. They are unbelievable, they just believe they're going to score goals.

Another Beeb rag outed....

Simon Stone

Vincent Kompany dashed to the touchline then as Eliaquim Mangala looked as though he might not be able to continue.

A quick check with the Frenchman confirmed he was OK to continue, so Kompany went back to the dug out for his training top, having avoided the booking that would have meant him missing next week's Manchester derby.

Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports:

"Today was different to (the late winner against) Southampton - I did not think that was going to happen. But today since after five minutes in the second half I felt we were going to score. Our pace and pass were quicker and better, that is why we are so happy - every game is so tough and it is important to keep our momentum.

"We started well but lost our patience and couldn't find the players in position, they moved too much.

"But you have ups and downs - what is important is that in the second half it was outstanding the way we played. It means we have done 39 points in a row. That is a lot. You see how they run and how they fight, that's why we are so proud again.

"Before (next week's match against Manchester United) we have to travel to Ukraine and after think about Old Trafford. We are going to try to be who we are."

Martin Tyler’s underwhelming response to David Silva’s dramatic winner speaks volumes and hasn’t gone unnoticed elsewhere.

We’re not alone in our opinion of him.

I think they were in shock and you have to forgive them both - I think they are both having mental breakdowns, because they were sure that City would not do it again.

If this is the case then we should enjoy his discomfort, and hope that it continues.

I'm sick of haven't to sit through ratboy commentating on City games. His overall thoughts aren't loaded with bias but it's the little snide remarks he makes, as an example, a completely innocuous challenge from Otter where he went for the ball but was slightly late and tripped his man and that ratboy scum is calling for a booking. That was one of numerous examples where I found myself cursing him.

I don't think it's right that we have to listen to a died in the wool rag commenting on us. My wife got Sky in for me last year as a present but I'll be cancelling now and will let them know why.

Having read the article I replayed the Silva’s goal - Tyler’s reaction is utterly underwhelming. I don’t expect sycophancy but as a supposedly neutral commentator he ought to be getting a bit more excited when one side breaks the deadlock late in the game. You could bet the mortgage that had Sakho equalised he wouldn’t have exploded.

I clocked Neville’s comment after the foul by Otamendi - in th same way I note don’t how his excellent dispossession of Antonio earlier in the first half was commented upon as something he got away with rather than a well judged and executed challenge (esp given his previous tendency to go to ground earlier in his City’s career). Tyler got in on the action calling for a booking. They failed to call out Rice for his trip on Delph in the second half for which he could easily have received a second yellow.

I know what you mean, Dub, but I just ignore it as best I can. I like my League and cricket as well, plus the NFL and occasional Gaelic football to carry on.

There is a way of linking DAB radio commentary via a laptop rather than the TV commentary if you're interested. I'll try and find instructions if you are.

That sounds interesting. If only there was an option to listen to the crowd only without the inane tv commentary

Looking at the late Sakho chance for West Ham, I am pretty sure that Arnautovic stands on Mangala’s ankle as they tussle which sends the defender to the ground. He was in a physical duel but was unlucky I think - had he been able to keep his feet he may have been able to do more to stop Arnautovic crossing the ball. He was clearly injured afterwards.

That doesn't fit the narrative. :004:
