Christmas Day Football

Looks like our last game on December 25th was the 1957/8 season, Fulham at home, lost 1-0. The return fixture was the next day !! lost 4-1. It was common to play return fixtures on consecutive days during the holiday period, 58/59 Sheff Wednesday, 56/57 Sheff Utd, 51/52 Wrexham, other seasons just a day apart, 59/60 Sunderland, 64/5 Notts County . Few ended happily !! They must have got fed up seeing each other.

I can't imagine my festive period would end too happily if I told the Mrs I was popping out on Christmas day to see the footy.

Don't know about buses, but nationally speaking I think a full train service on Christmas Day ended in the early to mid-1960s.
