Christian Burgess is a footballer I've heard mentioned several times, mainly from his loan with Hartlepool from Middlesbrough but also knew of his move to Peterborough, a club he captained last season I think?

A £500,000 signing, you don't play that sort of money for a player if they're a mug do you, when Posh did take him on but, and again for whatever reason, they decided to let him leave this summer so we brought him in on for an 'undisclosed fee.'

Burgess MOTM v Accrington & Barnet Pre-Match

Later today Pompey look to get back to that winning feeling against Barnet, before we do - and has it really been a week already, this has just slipped by! - we look back one last time as Accrington last time round.

As I say this week has gotten away from me!

I would much rather have done this before but just haven't had a chance but before we look ahead to Barnet - and the return to Fratton of former player Martin Allen and reportedly manager of interest before Paul Cook arrived - we look back at Accrington one last time and the MOTM win for Christian Burgess, according to the VP voters, against Stanley.

Maintaining momentum...and the run!

'Momentum' is a word used a lot when it comes to football isn't it? This is something you look to build up and when you have it you want to roll with it!

Pompey, at the moment, most definitely do have momentum behind us with us unbeaten in the league and looking to maintain this at Oxford tomorrow.

Christian Burgess has been speaking to the News ahead of this game with him, like we all are, keen to maintain and extend that unbeaten start to the league two season.

Before we do move on from Morecambe, and look ahead to the Colchester visit to Fratton Park tomorrow, we round up the MotM winner from that Globe Arena defeat on Tuesday.

Anyone know much about this. A friend of mine saw him a bit at Peterborough and said he wasn't up to League One standard, and he'll probably fit in at League Two level but one set the division alight. Obviously only one person's opinion, but keen to see how he'll fit in with Cookies plans.

Christian Burgess, like the rest of us, is enjoying Pompey's promotion to league one BUT he's not content to settle at that level - he's already eyeing the Championship.

Definitely L2 level without a doubt, and I'm sure he can make it at L1 too to be fair.

Dropped out of the game to go back to uni I believe before Middlesbrough got him back into the game a few years ago - enjoyed much success with Hartlepool and made a £500,000 move to Posh, where he had been captain but fell out with the manager I think.

Reckon he'll go on the journey with us...however far it takes us!

Pompey should have Christian Burgess available for the League One opener with Rochdale this weekend. A 'slight calf problem' meant Burgess missed Crawley on Saturday.

Hope it's not a reoccurring one, a major reason for our success last season is the fact that our back 4 (5 including Forde) rarely changed from September onwards. Clarke has made it clear he doesn't like playing in August, so hopefully he doesn't come back too soon and is fully fit when he returns.

The injury against Hartlepool will see, which obviously ended in the final minutes anyway, his run of playing in all the Pompey league two games go with him facing a month out!

The long awaited announcement of the signing of Christian Burgess happened this afternoon when the club`s website broke the news.

Seen as Jackett said IF Crawley had been a league game he thinks Burgess would have played lets hope it wasn't too bad at all and that extra weeks rest has reduced the reoccurring risks eh.

Christian Burgess handed Pompey a boost by putting pen to paper on a two year contract extension. However, lead professional development coach Mikey Harris is off to Brighton.

I didn't think Burgess would sign a new contract, well, actually worried he wouldn't.

Was delighted when he did but haven't really had a chance to comment on this as such since it happened last week.

Yes, contracts mean little these days BUT it'll secure him beyond January, at least ensure a realistic fee is received should clubs come in for him.

Four defeats in five came to an end at the weekend as Pompey won at Oldham. Victory was great, but the decision to drop Christian Burgess was a main talking point ahead of this game.

Dropping Burgess was the right call ahead of Oldham.

Given we won that - and kept a clean sheet - the fact he didn't return against Oxford wasn't a surprise. I'd very much doubt he'll be back in the side at Walsall either, will he?

However, he WILL at some point return, but his omission from the side for a while should certainly work in favour of all concerned, right?
