Chieo Get's International Call-Up

He must have made a bit of a recovery in the last few hours , as he has been named as a sub. Manning also on the subs bench.

Rep. Ireland won 4-1 . Ogbene was an unused sub. He was on the bench, but whether he would have been fit enough to actually play is another matter. (Sounds familiar). Let's hope he recovers from his injury in the next few days though. If not, he needs to be returning to the NYS as soon as possible.

Hungary v Rep. Ireland tonight (Friendly)1900
FAI Update - fans will be allowed into watch the game. Team news - Coleman is out injured . All the other Rep. Ireland squad players are available for selection.

Update 1 - Ogbene on subs bench. (So is Manning)

Update 2 - HT 0-0 (No subs used so far)

Update 3 - International debut for CHIEO OGBENE -sub on 89th minute!
Better late than never. (Manning also on as sub)

Udate 4 - Ogbene has just broken clear of the Hungary defence in the last minute .... and shot into the side-netting! Who would have predicted that? :p
Some things never change ... will Warney ever teach him how to shoot into the goal instead of the side-netting? Maybe one of the Irish coaches will be able to.
(One Millers goal in the last two seasons).
Brief chance to make a name for himself tonight , and possibly start in the next Rep. Ireland game, but...

FT 0-0

Chieo was the first African-born player to play for Ireland. Though I don't think that's much of a surprise to be honest.

Could be another one soon, if he continues to improve and has a good 2021/22 season - Joshua Kayode. He's already got some U-21 caps and has scored at that level. He is also still eligible to play for Nigeria, because he is yet to have a full international cap.

We are getting quite a few "international caps" these days. Our most successful teams from the 1950's and early 60's didn't have any (although nearly all the players were born locally, and England rarely picked Level 2 players). Football "nationality" rules were stricter back then. Later Keith Pring and then Ray Mielczarek got international caps (both for Wales). Quite of lot of the recent Millers "internationals" have been loan players though, so Ogbene, Harding and Tilt have done well to get selected for full caps as contracted Millers players.
