Chesterfield resigned to their fate?

Yeah shock coming but great ground!???

Funnily enough, I was speaking to a Chesterfield fan at my local boozer, who says he much prefers Sincil Bank to the Proact and we should stay there if we possibly can. Opinions, eh?

My wife's home town club, it's sad but then we had to face it didn't we? They'll not bounce straight back and that is for sure. I'd even be tempted to have a wager on them getting a third successive relegation.

Whilst it is mathematically possible there is always a chance . who knows , if anyone does can they do my lottery numbers , i need a bolt hole in Barbados

It depends what the owners do, be they the deeply unpopular Allen or somebody new. Reading their message-board I've been struck by how quickly so many have turned on Jack Lester. If I pulled the strings I'd make it clear Lester was in charge till the end of next season, however badly the season might seem to be going. If they sack Lester I think your wager would have a good chance of being a winner.

This relegation has been in the post for a while. They bought their way to various promotions with money they didn’t have, now the chickens are coming home to roost.

O'Grady is under contract until June 2019. Carson said one of the players has a relegation release clause - it would be a safe bet that's him.

Quite how he would find another club is a different question. At the age of 32, 3 goals in 40 matches this season won't lead to a queue forming.

Edit: He also managed just 1 goal in 26 games in 2016-17, and 2 in 26 in 2015-16. That makes a total of 6 goals in 3 years, or 1 goal every 15 games. Well worth £4,500 a week.
Records aren't everything in Football, dont forget the old boys network. Drewe always seemed to fall on his feet!

I would go as far as to say they are in real trouble if they don't sack Lester, and right now. He's completely clueless. His interview after the defeat at home to Lincoln last month was excrutiating.

Furthermore, the evidence of the last eight seasons tells you that you need an experienced non-league manager to get out of the National League, as has been highlighted on here many times.

2016-17 Danny Cowley & Mark Cooper
2015-16 Gary Johnson & Paul Hurst
2014-15 Martin Allen & Darrell Clarke
2013-14 John Still & Richard Money
2012-13 Paul Cox & Justin Edinburgh
2011-12 Micky Mellon & Gary Mills
2010-11 Steve Evans & Terry Brown
2009-10 Graham Westley & Chris Wilder

Virtually all of the above had previous promotions further down the non-league pyramid, and virtually all had made the National League play-offs before. They were non-league specialists with good track records in non-league football. No rookies whatsoever.

This season? John Askey and probably Micky Mellon - both vastly experienced in non-league football.

Lester knows absolutely nothing about the National League and is entirely the wrong man for the job. Just look at Hartlepool appointing Craig Harrison and Orient appointing Steve Davis last summer - disastrous thinking.

I reckon one of the best things Chesterfield could do is go and get Luke Garrard from Boreham Wood if he would come? Worked miracles at them on a shoestring budget compared to most, young up and coming manager and clearly knows The National League like the back of his hand.

Having so many players under contract for next season when they have performed so poorly this campaign will be a huge problem for them (most of them have a 20% reduction written into their contracts upon relegation, but that's not all that much of a saving).

The first thing you want to do is offload them and get more committed ones in, but it's either going to cost a shedload of money to terminate their contracts – which will be virtually impossible as they predict they'll lose £1.5m by going down – or they will just have to stick with them and hope they turn things around. A horrible situation. Bizarre scenario given most of them lengthy contracts in the first place.

And I presume Chris O'Grady will still be under contract? At £4,500 per week now, he's still going to be on well over £3,500 a week in the Conference. Obscene.
We had the same with Anyon, O'Keefe, Fuseini and McCallum.

Haha. They're minted.

Not according to their last filed accounts they are not! Our filed accounts for last season showed total staff costs at £2.1 million obviously that includes title and FA Cup bonuses. Boreham Woods's player costs for the same season were £210,000.

When you consider our lowest wage bill was in 2015 and it was still £965,000. I appreciate they are in London more players to draw on etc but that is still pretty decent management imo!

one or two teams in the NL have up an coming managers . teams like Ebbsfleet and Bromley are having their best ever seasons in the highest league that have played in . some interesting players also

The six transfer-listed players - the four you mention plus Carayol and Watts - accounted for 30% of the wage bill.

Unfortunately, and not entirely unexpectedly, we only managed to get rid of one of them. The other five ended up remaining on the books or had their contracts paid up. McCallum was on £1200 per week, remember. No wonder we struggled.

A full time team don't run on a £210k playing budget. You only need to look at some of the players they sign to realise it's a good budget (admittedly boosted by an agreement with Arsenal as well).

I didn't know they had gone full time I guess they must have gone full time this season? Accounts cannot lie as that is fraud. The season we came up their playing budget was £210,000 it's all in the published audited and signed off accounts.

They signed a new lease agreement with Arsenal in June 2017 perhaps that is what is funding the playing side this season and the reason they are doing so well!

Will be interesting to see what the playing budget is for this season when the accounts are published.

if chesterfield go down and need cash - rather than buying o'grady - maybe we could take their main stand off them.
