Cheaper Beer.

One of Osbourne's giveaways in the budget was a penny off the tax on beer. Has anyone noticed this in their local? I'll bet we're all still paying the same as before.

I paid £3.75 for 4 cans of carling last night which I thought was pretty decent... they were on offer though. Cant say I have noticed them being a penny cheaper

I don't think we will see a difference over the bar ironside. I don't think it was designed to leave an extra 1p in our pockets, it was more of a gesture.

If anything, it would help the breweries..... hopefully the smaller micro breweries who have seen the price of raw materials increase markedly over the last few years. Can't remember exactly, but was it a reduction of the excise duty the breweries have to pay per barrel produced?......

How many pints in a barrel? And if a landlord is ordering 4 barrels or Carling, 2 barrels of Guinness, 2 barrels of brew XI etc etc - surely it makes a small difference in a trade that has been struggling in recent times?

I dont really expect it to be passed onto the consumer - just hope it helps a little way in keeping our traditional British pubs/hotels from closing down.

Absolutely Green Tea! Pubs/hotels have been closing at an alarming rate over the last few years, so every little helps.

There is 288 pints in a barrel....

36 gall x 8 pints

18 gall x 8 pints in a kil

9 gall x 8 pints in a firkin

Paddys have to be different. Guiness comes in 11 galls so that's 88 pints.

I bought a pint of Carling and half a Thatchers last weekend at The Hardwick in Streetly. It`s £4-54 usually. It was a penny cheaper.
So there are some pubs that have passed the reduction on to us.

Beer here is cheap as chips, comes in all shapes and sizes. 45p equivalent for a decent bottle, sometimes!
