Charlton v Charlatans

Frank Bullitt

Vital 1st Team Regular
Right let's see what the players are made of, the new manager has been appointed and gave a great first interview (I love the none negotiable comment he made) the players are in for a rude awakening with Lowey and not before time!

I've been saying for months there's a team in this lot somewhere now is the time to prove it, the holiday is over the new manager will sort the wheat from the chaff so the shirkers had better be prepared, of course everyone will start with a clean slate so over to the players to impress the new guy at The Valley on Saturday, I'm sure he'll have some input at some point.

I don't think I've been this enthusiastic for over two and a half years, I think we'll nick this one, 1-0 Latics!

If they wouldn't or couldn't put a shift in for Maloney with the love and respect he was merited with then why will they be any different now. I fear for Ryan Lowe in the outset with the squad he has been left and only the summer transfer window will start to turn it round IMHO. I hope I'm wrong and he hits the ground running but I haven't seen enough quality in these players to build my hopes up. Good luck Ryan if you can sort this mess out you will quickly become a legend at the Brick.

I think he’ll be assessing Whelan as much as the players in this match. He’s made it clear he’s prepared the team so will let him run with that for Saturday. Rightly too I think. I’d love to know what his non negotiables are, though can hazard a guess and as Frank says a few are in for a rude awakening. I suspect he’ll suss them out pretty quickly and I expect a fair bit of outward movement this summer.

Hopefully different mindset and the shackles are off mate.

In the games that we have left, the players that want to remain at the club, will have to prove their worth.

I cannot see Lowe wanting players who will not give 100%
each game as this will damage Lowe's intention is to get the players performing better and scoring more goals.

(Lowe was a former striker of note for, among others, Bury, Tranmere Rovers and Shrewsbury Town, where one of his former team-mates was Latics sporting director
Gregor Rioch
).

Can we not just take this down a notch FB / MiW, the new manager has yet to make an assumption/ appraisal how the team may perform. Yes we'd all love an immediate new manager bounce but let's wait n see what develops. The players may well have been stifled by SM's tactics or hampered by SM's style of play but surely we should let our new man RL, get to grips with the squad n see what happens ......anyway up the new manager Tics

I was pissed off with the last two managerial appointments they were shite and it showed, others and myself have every right to be enthusiastic with Lowe at the helm, a new manager bounce for a change.

New Manager doesn't change the fact that we don't have a natural (or even a 10+) goalscorer on the books.
We will struggle to score goals for the rest of the season.

I get that Sid but like I've said many times, with the right leadership it could have been avoided.

Maloney was adamant he didn't need a striker, then he did, then he didn't, surely the hierarchy (if they knew the slightest thing about football) or even Rioch would have questioned that we couldn't go in to the second half of the season with only one recognised striker? Which to be fair wasn't exactly pulling up trees before his injury.

The Maloney era is over thank God, it was an absolute shit show, Lowe knows his onions and won't take any shit from that lot upstairs.

As I understand Glenn Whelan is in charge of selection and tactics so will be another boring cringefest of an Alamo rearguard attempt to earn a 0-0. Apparently Ryan is watching from the stand and I hope he stays to the end and not slopes off at about 70 minutes bored out his box. I can't wait personally until he has sole charge of all things team related because these lot are too good a team to let our recent tactics be good enough for anything other than a defeat.

2 goal loss.

Ryan Lowe said in one of his interviews that he wasn't going to interfere much for this match, but would be speaking to the squad today to discuss his 'non negotiables'.
Hopefully this will be aimed at the lads who are looking after and setting up the team for Saturdays match.

Maloneyball a distant nightmare. Good riddance to the dullest football in Latics history. It's been bloody shite.

Hopefully the players will be out to impress the new manager tomorrow. I wouldn’t like to predict what will happen as Charlton always seem to have lots of pace and power and are in great form.

It’d be good to see us have a go rather than the backs to the wall stuff we’ve seen in some away games. It’s become far too boring and predictable but I think we might have to wait until next season before we see things start to change, our lack of attacking options is something that can only be addressed in the summer.

I think Charlton haven’t been dominant in their performances. A new manager and wanting to impress will give us a 2-1 victory 🤞

They have Nathan Jones in charge who is a bit of a tit and has been trying to tell his players where they can and can’t go shopping this week. Blue water have took note and released a social media clip mocking him. Maybe it’ll throw them off and we can take advantage. Ultimately it’s thankfully the last game of the old regime before we start afresh so hopefully we’ll see some effort in an attempt to impress, but other than that perhaps not much riding on the game.

Silly o’clock, platform 4 Wigan NW station for our trip to Charlton, my first long distance away trip by train since I don’t know when. Funny I never remember it being so cold back in the day, but my old bones are feeling it this morning I can tell you.

From a pleasant sunny Benidorm, I'm going to pluck for an unlikely 1-2 to the new coach / manager bounce.
