Changing their tune...

Vital 1st Team Regular
So how many fans will change their tune if we lose tomorrow. England that is, not gills.

I can imagine it now. We lose tomorrow in a fairly uninspiring loss as Sweden do a job on us and the players have got ahead of themselves.

I have no doubt that England fans claiming now that they love England at last, will be moaning its 'same old england'.

Theyll be moaning that we only actually beat two poor teams in Tunisia and Panama. Then lost agaisnt Belgium. And actually couldn't even beat Columbia apart from with penalties.

It's sad, but the main reason I'd want us to win tomorrow is so i dont have to put up with listening to the above for the next week.

Those previously saying we have played well and given them hope for once in years will all of a sudden look at the whole experience incredibly negatively.

I do fear that while alot of the 'its coming home' stuff started out as tongue in cheek as we didn't really feel we had a chance, all of a sudden our fans are behaving like typical arrogant England fans always have done over the years, meaning everyone hates us. Win vs Sweden to get to the semi? "Easy. No problem. Who we playing in the final more importantly."

We're English, of course we'll fecking moan! It's what we do, we're famous for it! Can't break tradition :-)

Same old England. I knew we'd be s#it.

Oh, hang on a minute, we haven't played yet.

2 0 England, Maguire to score first.

Will not moan if/when we lose as this is the first time for 20 years that I've been proud of the side and we have a team spirit. I don't expect the players have already booked their holidays for the day after the quarters as some in he past seemed to.

"Overpaid prima donnas"

"Spoilt brats"

"No world class players"

"Not good enough technically. Need a complete upheaval of grass roots football (for the 10th time in 20 years)"

"They don't care, more worried about their social media"

Anyone for a game of world cup England fan bingo?

The worst ones are the ones who actually barely watch any football at all anyway but all of a sudden because they are watching their first game since 2 years ago are specialists again. Hitting

Everyone will moan if we dont win the cup even if we lose in the final - that is football and there is only one winner.

But - even if we loose today or dont win cup this team has done well and the Euros in 2 years will be very interesting

Whatever happens today we have shown we can score goals, keep the ball, have resilience. Oh an win at penalties. It’s been a classic World Cup and for once we’ve contributed positively to it.

My only worry is that the teams monopolising possession are losing out to counter attack teams on the whole. I hope we can counter the counter well today and use pacey and direct attacks ourselves when Sweden do come out.

I like the fact that we have been unafraid to introduce more young players to the England squad. That`s positive, constructive and bodes well for future tournaments involving England.

Just saying:

Sweden beat France in the group match and consigned Germany to bottom place

They eliminated Netherlands in qualifying

Our generally agreed target before the start was to reach the QFs.

Job done and anything else is a bonus. I think our time will come in 4 years (or the Euros before then) if this squad stays together.

Think the neigbours might be getting a bit pissed off, as I keep playing:
Back Home
This Time
Vinaloo
World in Motion
and Three Lions.

Getting far too excited and should know better at my age. Local lads wearing England shirts and are already drinking and singing.

Three Lions still brings a tear to the eye. Hope it all goes well and everybody has a good day.

As long as you avoid playing Cinnamon Stick it should all be OK !

France, Croatia, Belgium and Sweden are all better than us. Does that mean we can't beat them? Of course not! :-)

I understand the point you are making but I don't think it will happen. In a interview yesterday the interviewer said to Southgate the fans have connected to the team and I think that hit the nail on the head. After a few dismal tournaments summed up by Iceland this team has won the fans over - whatever happens.

The country needed it as well after the divisiveness of Brexit. Caught my daughter whistling its coming home yesterday and she hates football.

It feels a bit like the London Olympics. The footie and the sunshine has made England happy again.

Playing a few relatively unknowns (at least to me) like Trippier and Maguire has given the team a fresh young look and boy did it need it.

Whatever else happens I think the team has won the country over.

That's something Southgate should very proud of.

The its coming home videos are very funny but totally tongue in cheek - I like the matrix one "He's starting to believe".

For what its worth I think we will make the final but find Belgium too strong.

Whatever happens it's surpassed my hopes

I realy wasnt too bothered about this world cup but ive been pleasently surprised by both England and Belgium of all countries.
For the first time in many years I'm proud of the England team despite not knowing most of them.
If they get knocked out by Sweden this team will still have surpassed my expectations.
No moaning from me if they loose tonight/ today (depending on where you are in the world)

I think the main reason the teams connected with the fans is becsue they are were winning. Apart from the iceland game, We actually played pretty good football 2 years ago. But we lost and all the cliches came out. Sorry but I just see pur fans as massively fickle.

No Ak we were shit 2 years ago. Compare today to any game in 2016 when we had several so callled stars. Well done Southgate for dumpin tje likes of Rooney and Tart.

Yes we won today and in 2016 we lost. In my view that still explains the difference in opinion.

P.s. ITS COMING HOME. So glad we won. I do actually think fans will be happy now as it's the furthest we've got in about 300 years. Which makes me very happy.

Yes, you read it hear first. Did any of you listen to me?

140/1 on Maguire 2 0 plus the 2 0 and Maguire 1st scorer
