Used to love them as a child.
Highlight of our holiday - picking winkles on Filey Brigg, taking them back to the caravan and cooking them.

My Uncle used to do the same, Digger. I can't say I remember ever having a winkle.

I used to try to get whole ones out of the shell in one go (with a pin).
We used to TRY to de-shell a load at a time and put them in a bowl - i just couldn't resist eating each one as they came out of the shell.
