Champions League squad

No Janssen or Lamela.

Why the hell no Janssen?

I just posted this in the janssen thread, he is crap and poch knows it. Soldado MK 2

He got slated on twitter by spurs and dutch fans.

No point in putting lamela in who wont be ready for any group matches.

Janssens done here.

He is an idiot for turning down a move.

Yeah Lamela is obviously out till after December then, no Janssen is a bit of a joke though. Even if Poch don't rate him it isn't complete out the question that Llorente and Kane are both injured/suspended at the same time.

Son will be ahead of him

And includes Sissoko. Absolutely bonkers. Janssen would be better on the wing compared to Shitsoko.

Janssen is a worse footballer then sissoko. Sad but true.

If janssen couldnt see that llorente signing was the end for him then he is stupid.

Who should have missed out of 3 strikers ? Llorente is a proven scorer and CL experienced. Its a no brainer unless Poch has room for him to the detriment of an attacking MF which I doubt he has.

Janssen is definitely not a bad footballer. A footballer that is currently shot of all confidence maybe. He's actually a good footballer and a good finisher, he's just not had much of a chance to show it.

I don't get why so many fans are so quick to judge and slag off our players, especially young players.

At the end of the day we all knew the janssen signing was a risk and it hadnt' paid off. I never really heard of the bloke when we were going for him. He had one good half a season at AZ and we took a shot and lost.

as I said at the time, we should have let him have another season before moving for him - assuming he could keep up his feats, but there were at least half a dozen agents trying to get him to go elsewhere in Europe...both he an we probably wish he had now.

His days here are over. Poch is ruthless that's for sure. This will destroy his confidence even more.

it's to do with our homegrown quota I believe... Swapping Walker for Aurier means we have one less homegrown to play. Still harsh on Janssen.

I read something about you needing to name at least 2 keepers but if both get injured you can call up a 3rd as a replacement... Couldn't we have picked 2 keepers and put Janssen in instead of the 3rd then bring in Gazzaniga through special dispensation if the first 2 are injured?

Isn't there a rostering rule that requires a min number of "locally developed" players, and if you are short of the min, your squad total is reduced?

Hence why we have only rostered 21.

Lamela being out until December, his omission was a given. But needing to drop another foreign developed player, Janssen was the next logical candidate.

Both players could be added after the group stages in January maybe?

Someone more familiar with the CL squad rules could determine the veracity of what I just said.

I do so agree with you. Alright, I know he's not made a mark, yet, and perhaps he never will, but show and give the man some respect. We shouldn't make our comments personal about either our players or management.

In all the years I've been supporting Spurs, there have been two players who, for me, were the worst that I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt, David Jenkins and Gary Doherty. With Jenkins, a swap from Arsenal for a good Scottish winger we had, Jimmy Robertson, I still remember a sad incident that occurred when we were playing at home, against Coventry, I think it was. We were attacking and Jenkins had a shot at goal. Unfortunately he well missed - there was just no way he was First Division standard - but in his attempt, he badly miskicked and instead stubbed his foot into the pitch and injured himself. The Coventry goalie took the goal kick and as the ball sailed away to the halfway line, all the other players had moved up-field so that Jenkins was kind of isolated and forlornly limped slowly back to the halfway line, all eyes on him and with the sound of contemptuous jeers ringing in his ears. I've often thought about that incident. It took some courage for him to do that and wear that humiliation in front of at least 30,000 fans.

Janssen doesn't need us telling him that he's not yet hit the heights, but when he comes out for all to see, well, it sure tests your character. I'd love him to prove us wrong, not to have a dig at fellow Spurs fans but for him. If it's true that he turned down moves to three clubs, that could be interpreted as a positive sign in itself.

Janssens goal from a N'koudou cross in the pre-season game, gave us a glimpse of what he'd been doing week in, week out in Holland and why the dutch really think that he was heading towards being one of their best....

Go figure.

Every club must submit two lists of players (A and B) to their national association by 24:00CET on Thursday. The lists (which include things like shirt numbers) are then verified, validated and forwarded to UEFA. They are expected to be announced on UEFA.com on Monday.

Who can be on List A?

A maximum of 25 players, two of whom must be goalkeepers. There are a minimum of eight places reserved exclusively for 'locally trained players'. If a club have fewer than eight locally trained players in their squad, then the maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly.

Group stage sides' summer transfers

What's a 'locally trained player'?

There are two categories:

1. Club-trained players – players who were on a club's books for three years between the ages of 15 and 21;

2. Association-trained players – players who were on another club's books in the same association for three years between the ages of 15 and 21.

No club can have more than four association-trained players among their eight nominees on List A.

What is List B, then?

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 1995 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be registered if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years). Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be submitted by no later than 24:00CET the day before a match.

Can clubs change their squads again this season?

Yes ... if they get through to the knockout stage. Ahead of the round of 16, by midnight on 1 February, clubs can register a maximum of three new players. The overall limit of 25 players on List A remains, though.

Any limitations on who is added?
Players may have played in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League, but only one of them can have played in the UEFA Europa League group stage. Players cannot represent two clubs in the UEFA Champions League from the group stage onwards.

Is that it?
Erm, no. If a club cannot count on the services of at least two goalkeepers registered on List A because of long-term injury or illness (i.e. one that lasts 30 days), a club can temporarily replace him at any time during the season.

I would like to see Janssen make it. I have seen poor touches and missed sitters from him though . He hasn't done himself any favours and if Poch is seeing it in training also it could explain his lack of game time. It's a tough business and you can only show so much loyalty to a player.

He may get some sub chances or lesser cup time to show his ability.

Xvausch was on the money..
