Champions League Round of 16 Draw Thread

According to the BBC website....

"So, of the teams who qualified tonight, Manchester City could face Paris St-Germain, PSV Eindhoven or Benfica in the last 16."

Is that so?

Are those the only options due to whatever complicated and totally above board arrangements UEFA have in place?

Off topic, I am sorry the rags have not got through, but doing somersaults that they have to play in the Europa instead of getting a breather.

Everyone's knows it will be PSG, because it's fixed.

If and I emphasise if, we get through the next round, I really want to meet Juventus and **ck them up the arse. I think we have been unlucky against them I just want another go, but be careful what you wish for buzz

They'll probably introduce a new rule saying that it's going to be unseeded, and that we've drawn Barca once again...

Is it seeded team v unseeded team minus a team from your own country and group or do they have other rules?

What do you mean Ned? Other rules which no one knows about or can fathom once they're revealed which result in us getting screwed? Oh, those rules.....

Actually here are the rules for the round of 16:-

The round of 16 pairings are determined by means of a draw in accordance with the following principles:
a. Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.
b. Group winners must be drawn against runners-up from a different group.
c. The runners-up play the first leg at home.
d. Should Manchester City manage to win their group despite UEFA's best efforts they MUST be drawn against the toughest runner up e.g. PSG in 2015/16

Guess which one I made up?

Well, it's possible that after tonight the whole "can't be drawn against a team from your country" point could be moot.

I would never have expected that we were the only Group winner. I also would have expected the rags to go through. It wasn't an easy group, but it was certainly a group that the team who has dropped $325m on players recently should have won.

It also means that there could be five English teams in the Europa League. It would make the Prem look terrible if none of the teams gave it any credence and all bowed out early.

To be fair Philly, it seems the dippers and the spuds are taking it seriously this season, not sure the others will should they drop into it. They should really, considering the precarious position English clubs are in regarding coefficients but I shan't hold my breath.

I will agree about Spurs and Liverpool - they look to win it all, which is good to see. My comment was more about the other three who could be in it, and they will claim it's "below them" and just field weakened sides.

Valid points made in an article I saw earlier (I'm afraid I can't remember where now), that, if Chelsea don't make it, it maybe easier for them to qualify for next season's CL via winning the EL, rather than via the PL, considering their fortunes so far.

Good point, hadn't thought of that.
