Champagne Summer of Cricket ends

Yesterday's victory ends a fine summer in one-day cricket for England, who won 11 of their 13 completed matches and secured series wins over Ireland and South Africa, the latter the most significant.

They also reached the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy, before losing to eventual winners Pakistan.

Ladies cricket arrived with a bang and was fabulous entertainment. Anya Schrubsole's final wicket , having had one dropped a minute before was absolute class and the subsequent celebrations fantastic as England won the World Cup.

Add to that a nail biter final day in the County Championship where a last minute shock saw Middlesex relegated and Somerset survive.

England's next international match will be the first Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane starting on 23 November. Without Stokes we are in deep trouble and he might yet face criminal prosecution.

Great champagne summer. From now on it's 100% Lincoln.

Good stuff Stevie, and a great year for Notts, back at the top table next season and two one day trophies to defend. Good start for Joe Root as England skipper, and a good year for Moeen Ali who just gets on with it very effectively.
