Cat 1

And a first mention for Chris Brass

Nottingham Forest are delighted to confirm that the club has secured a conditional licence to operate a Category 1 Academy for the 2021-22 season.

Category 1 is the highest classification awarded to an Academy within the English professional game. Clubs with Category 1 status include Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and many other leading clubs in the Premier League.

The club’s U23 and U18 teams will now enter the elite academy games programme for next season, including Premier League 2 and cup competitions.

Chairman Nicholas Randall, QC, said: “This is a very important development for the long-term future of the club.

“The academy is fundamental to the footballing strategy of the club and is a priority for the Board. To see the likes of Joe Worrall, Ryan Yates and Alex Mighten playing regularly in the first team demonstrates the success of our Academy. Category 1 status is the next step in developing more elite footballers.

“The club is extremely grateful to Mr Marinakis for his continued financial investments in the infrastructure of the club. It is the owner’s personal commitment to such strategic initiatives that has made this possible.

“This milestone is also a testament to the tireless work of Gary Brazil and the outstanding efforts of Chris McGuane, Andy Reid and many others.”

Gary Brazil, Director of Football Development, said: “I am thrilled that we have achieved Category 1 status for next season.

“The current and future investments in facilities by Mr Marinakis will take us to another level. It is a fantastic opportunity for the club and it will be really exciting for the staff and players to challenge themselves at the elite end of academy football.

“The benefits include playing better quality teams in the games programme and access to youth grant funding. It will also help us to keep providing elite talent for our first team and ensure we provide opportunities for players in and around Nottinghamshire to become professional footballers.

“We have established a strong recruitment staff and this will be another string to the bow of Chris Brass and his team to continue to attract and retain the very best talent.

“I would like to thank all the Academy staff, especially Chris McGuane, for their work in securing the licence. It has been an extremely rigorous process so far and has been a joint effort across the club from the owner, the Board and all the staff”

The Category 1 licence has been awarded following an assessment of the Academy by the Professional Game Academy Audit Company (PGAAC). The PGAAC was established by the Premier League, EFL and The FA to provide independent quality assurance to club academies as part of the game’s drive to produce more and better homegrown players.

The licence has initially been granted on a one-year conditional basis with a five-day standards audit to follow in the forthcoming season.

Good news for the future, we churn out a few decent kids hopefully this helps get a few more of higher quality through.

Most of the benefits will be medium to long term; however, there are short term benefits as well.

The kids now play in a better standard of football; as things stand we should be in Premier 2 along with Newcastle, West Brom, Norwich, Villa, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Southampton and Leicester, who just got relegated from Premier 1.

The fact we now have Cat 1 will help persuade parents to send their kids here; we still miss out on some to Derby and Leicester due to not having Cat1.

Probably a decent thing then if we start seeing our youth teams getting dicked each week- they'll learn from the higher standard and greater competition and the experiences should pay dividends in 5 years or so

We have some real talent in the under age sides; it will no doubt be a steep learning curve but I certainly dont see us getting thrashed every week.

It will be a godsend for players like James Claridge, Fin Back, Dale Taylor and Jamie McDonnell, all 17 years old, all on the fast track programme for first team football.

Non of them appeared phased by the jump from U18s to U23s; the next jump should bring them on even more.

If our youth team get experienced in getting dicked every week, that will set them up perfectly for stepping in to the first team chap!

Just saying that it wouldn't be a terrible thing if they did suddenly find things a lot more difficult.

The greater the jump in standard, the more difference and eventual benefit we'll start seeing for our investment down the line.

If our team came in and straightaway were top of the league, there wouldn't be that much difference in what they were learning week by week

That really is a welcome bit of good news, and just goes to show that there are parts of the club that operate at a very high standard and those involved should be congratulated. Now we need to extend that good work to those who are are responsible for 1st team matters, fingers crossed it's starting to happen.

Shame we didn't do it a couple of seasons ago when he decided building himself some offices was more important...
Is as important, if not a lot more so, than anything your boy Doughty did with the Academy though

It can't be dressed up as anything other than a positive to come out of the current ownership, no matter what mast you have tied your flag to (and mine remains firmly tied to the fence)

Let's not be a ****** with how we speak about someone who has passed away.

A) my first post which you chose to ignore was unequivocal in it's praise

B) since you're such an expert why not list exactly what ND did and what EM is doing for you to make the comparison.

We all know you haven't a fucking clue and you'll need Mao to answer for you.

All you are doing is displaying a total ignorance of how the Academy system works and what has gone on in the background.

The offices built neither delayed us getting Cat1 or had any detrimental effect on the Academy whatsoever.

To start with the club can only apply for Cat 1 status once in a three year period; the last time this anniversary came round Marinakis had owned the Club for less than a year and we just would not have been ready to submit an application.

This is effectively the first opportunity for attainment.

Since then the Club had what they thought was a deal for a new training ground and Academy; unfortunately the site was re zoned by the Council for housing and the sale fell through.

The search for a suitable site goes on, but it has not stopped them from getting Cat1

Lmao.

Impressive you can still bend over so far at your age.

And to be clear it is a conditional licence for one year with an audit required.

There has been no actual infrastructure built beyond EM'S offices.
