Can You Improve Upon Perfection?

Okay the title is a joke. Obviously we could improve. However, there are very few players in the world right now who could improve our starting eleven.

Just think about that statement...there are very few players in the world who could improve what we have already! How amazing is that when you really think about it.

To test it out, how many Spurs players would make a Premier League 11?

For me there are very strong arguments to include Hugo, Toby, Jan, Rose, Wanayama, Demebele, Eriksen, Ali and Kane. That is 9 players...think about who you would add to our starting 11 from within the Premier League to strengthen it... there aren't many that make the list are there?

I would say there are only 30-40 players in the world who may improve our starting XI.

We have been the top scoring team in the EPL with the meanest defence for two years. And here lies the problem, the players who would improve are simply unaffordable.

So we look to improve our strength in depth...

How do you feel about paying £50 million for a squad player? Well Gylfi is currently valued at that amount and he couldn't make our staring line-up when we were nowhere near as good as we are now.

We have a wonderful problem...

We are much better now than we have been in decades and therefore it is extremely difficult to improve what we have already. We have had the youngest squad in the league for two years... they are only going to get better together. We have the most stable and balanced team in the league that are growing together and look better and better as time passes by.

Over the past 10 years we have had some very very good players such as Carrick, Modric, Berbatov, Keane etc. They all forced through moves to bigger clubs after a good season (some on that list may have several boyhood clubs they were looking to play for...). We now have the best players in the league who have made it very clear that they will be playing for Spurs next season.

What I am saying is, 10 years ago we would have already lost Kane, Ali, Eriksen etc. etc. We are now in a position where we are retaining our best players and silly season is spent focusing on the upcoming 2017/18 and not on losing Ali, Kane etc. on deadline day.

I understand the frustrations and I acknowledge we need strength in depth. However, what a position we are in! No one in their right minds foresaw us having this problem three years ago.

Enjoy it!

For the sake of discussion I have two questions...

1. Who is your best Premier League 11?

2. Who would you like to see us sign?

We have a good first 11 and some capable additional squad players, but it is a bit of a fantasy to think that nine of them are good enough for the joint PL team as only Alderweireld, Rose, Alli and Kane currently really would - still not bad I grant you.

The cold hard fact as we stand right now is that despite all the stats, they have not been good enough to win anything and simply not true that only 30-40 players in the world could improve them.

The current PL is a bit of a bubble where the overall quality isn't great right now, and when we have stepped outside competitively in the CL we have been woeful agains t very ordinary CL level sides.
