Can we call Son back?

What is the position with players away on international duty? Could we, for example recall Son in the light of Kane, Alli, Sissoko etc out? Who has ultimate call on the player, Club or Country? Or is the player the one who decides what happens?

If the Club should have all the rights over player by means of its contract, then should we make a decision to call him back? Would that be fair to the player? And if so, what about loyalty to his country?

I’m raising this question for information reasons to fans.

No, we can't, we have no right of recall when any international is on international duty.

We could ask, but they'd almost certainly say no.

Son's reduced absence was due to our excellent relations with the SK team. He needs to fulfil his side of the obligation.

The only small gripe I had with SK was their use of Son in the 3rd qualifying game. They'd won the first 2 games before he arrived and it's 16 teams out of 24 that go through. So arguably they could have had him on the bench for a game that was to decide whether China or SK come first or second. Instead they selected him within 48 hours of landing having lost half a day to timezones. For those that travel, heading east is much harder than west. They were 2-0 up after 51 mins and still didn't withdraw him until the 89th min.

Today was different. They needed 120 mins to get through to quarters and quite rightly selected their best player and kept him on.

They play Qatar on Friday in the quarters and the final is next Friday our time so still unsure when we'll see him next and when he'll be ready for first team action.
