Butland and Philips

Apparently Sunderland are after making Kevin Phillips their next manager. Not sure he’d be much of a loss to us and I guess he could cut his managerial teeth in a League that Sunderland should cruise next season anyway.

Also from the DT...apparently Wolves are preparing to bid £35m for Butland. Really don’t understand that. No more than an adequate ‘keeper imo...nothing outstanding.

Granted Wolves now have premiership megabucks to piss away and the Fosun conglomerate is worth rather a lot, but that amount is roughly (IIRIW) how much the whole club, the ground in central wolverhampton and the training facilities were bought for only very recently!

If you add agents fees and his salary costs over (say) a 4 year contract, then that one, average, player will have cost the club significantly more than it was recently valued at.

The whole system is utterly morally bankrupt.

What hope does Mel Morris have - he may be worth a fortune in comparison to you and me, but compared to his peer group of premiership owners, his wealth seems almost insignificant.

Although Mel has spent the money, he has kept the club within FFP, unlike Wolves, Leicester, QPR and Bournemouth who stuck 2 fingers up to the FFP.
