Many of you are successful bitniz folk. This thread is for all of you. Make sure to keep politics in the politics thread and try to keep this thread more about any big business / money discussions, rather than the political aspects of things. Appreciate there will always be cross over though.

Can anyone lend me a tenner?

Was there a sudden increase in water bills this month?

Can somebody explain to me why utility companies have this thing where your account keeps ending up in credit?

ha ha ha, it's always better/cheaper to use other people's money to run your business and it saves huge, massive sums on chasing payments!

I've just requested my water supplier to refund me. Sly bastards. They are so clever with the wording on the site too. They use words like 'debt' when talking about having credit in your account.

It's part and parcel of their NBP, we should all be alive to how they do this and why, but the real issue is the 80/20 problem, 80% of their customers pay on time and in full and so the costs of running their account are small - the 20% on the other hand reflect about 95% of their customer collection costs as a business. No one has ever found an effective way to manage it differently, even metering and forcing them to g=feed the meter to keep being supplied is hideously complex and expensive.
