Bury

Surprised how much they'd taken on season ticket sales for this season. Depending on what they would have charged, somewhere between 500 and 1000 fans must have paid for one. Sad for them but a bit daft too given they were handing money to a known charlatan.

Inquesta confirmed to the Guardian that the “notice of breach” was sent to Dale last week. Dale confirmed that, but said the CVA was being changed because of the financial impact of the club’s expulsion, and he still intends to settle the club’s debts.

“I am in no talks at this current time with ‘another’ consortium,” Dale said, “just finalising saving the club through the CVA and applying to play football next season.”

Is the man in denial to himself, or does he think he can just keep re-floating a new CVA every 6 months until he dies so that he won't have to pay anyone anything?

Or is he just a total conman ??

Today’s NLP reports that, “The new Bury AFC phoenix club …. have applied to join the North West Counties League step 6 division next season”.

This will be NWCL div 1 and the same level that Brigg and Skegness are playing, at the 10th tier of English football

Apparently Isle of Man have also applied to join, so these are two new sides applying to join that league. 7 other teams from feeder leagues have also applied (in case they qualify for promotion). Don't know what the process is from now ie how the League bases its decisions...

NWCL would 100% say yes to Phoenix Bury.
They would give the biggest crowds by far in that league and plenty of press coverage etc.
Likewise excellent to see an IOM Island team joining too. Guernsey have done well and the new Jersey team are also thriving, both attracting bumper crowds.
Will look forward to a steaming over to IOM to see them play at some point

But how do they decide who gets ditched? Or do you reckon they'll increase the league by two?

Pity it takes such a review to point out the obvious

I note that the phoenix club has been provisionally accepted into the NWCL

Forcing paying wages out of turnover is all well and good but will lead to cheat clubs having inflated owner sponsorship deals so this will have to be restricted too.

So if an investor comes along and gives a pile of cash to a club (and we have benefitted from that with Clive and his fellow directors), would that still be allowed?

And another such example of that would be Jack Walker (?) turning over a lot of his wealth to Blackburn Rovers, enough to fund them all the way to being Champions.
Would that be allowed?

Apparently not under the proposals but we should not be competing with other clubs doing it either. And with our crowds we should be able to compete on this level playing field. It should also depress salaries in the lower leagues. Might all be pie in the sky though.

Hope you're right. It has puzzled me how despite our 9000+ crowds we nevertheless have a lower level of budget compared to others.
Obviously I'd expect Sunderland and Portsmouth and Ipswich to be way way above us, but the rest? We ought to be right up there...

You obviously don't know L1 very well.

Sunderland, Ipswich, Coventry, Portsmouth - all bigger clubs.
Posh, Doncaster, Fleetwood, Oxford - all heavily bankrolled.

So that puts you towards mid-table straight away.

MK lose more money than us, and then that leaves the likes of Rochdale, Accy, AFCW, who we'll be above and Shrewsbury, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham who we'll probably be on par with.

Bar the odd anomaly, there's a clear split between the financial power of the top half vs the bottom half.

Not forgetting that, as seems to have been alluded to, we had to find £600k of promotion bonuses from somewhere and that, presumably, came from the budget this season. A better indicator will be this summer and who we can attract.

Well that then leads to the question as to whether the new rules (whenever they get to be applied) will bring a halt to the heavy bankrolling.
And if so, would that put us right back in the mix excluding the big clubs?
(Which was basically what I was trying to say on previous post)
