Bury

Yep overspend to get promotion then struggle in league one then get relegated and repeat.
Remember them being in administration when we were back in 2002.

If you read to the bottom of the thread, there is this comment,

"They HAVE been paid .
Confirmed by a players parent I know."

So that puts an end to it then - quality inside information from an ultra reliable source.

Non playing staff at Bolton on strike for 48 hours. Macclesfield have the odd bit of trouble , Ebbsfleet not doing pre match warmups . Football ain't what it used to be . Business not s sport

Bury clearly have problems. Some wages were not paid for November and there were problems with pension contributions not having been paid for months. They had a huge debt under previous chairman Stewart Day, and it seems little better since he left at the end of last year. New owner Steve Dale insisted he would address their financial worries but that strange loan they took last month was more than interesting. Rumours of problems over March wages were fuelled by not having a home game for a month. Cash flow is the lifeblood of any organisation, and Bury seem to have none.

Unpaid wages, unpaid pension contributions, tax problems, winding-up petitions, high-interest loans...oh dear. Quite how they are going to survive over the summer is a huge question.

See the Solicitors acting are one of our sponsors, Bridge McFarland, albeit not our local branch I presume.

Petitioner is former manager Chris Brass: presumably they owe him some wages.
Rumours of an unsatisfied unfair dismissal award amounting to £100,000.

Have been doing a bit of reading up on them, and Bury really is a tangled mess. Club was supported and subsidised by a company owned by former chairman Stewart Day which then filed accounts more than a year late before being wound up; a £2.8m loss in 2016-17; no loss yet announced for 2017-18 when they were relegated; Gigg Lane mortgaged for £1.6m to a firm in Liverpool (Nov 2017); the lounge and sports bar used as security against another loan from a firm in tax haven Monaco (Nov 2018); interest rates for those loans not disclosed in company records; five winding-up petitions since 2016, some of which from HMRC; PFA intervention over wages; rumours of staff not being paid at intervals; allegation that the club's bank account has been frozen; cash payments only at the ticket office.

When financial matters deteriorate in this way, who knows what the truth is?
