A new season - but that familiar feeling of disenchantment:
BST's column in the Gazette Football Friday pull-out (05/08/16)

Exactly a year ago this column read: “A new season is about to kick-off for the Seasiders: new manager, new backroom staff, new players, new challenges - albeit back in the third tier. Same old owners, though.”

Just substitute fourth for third in the above and job done for the opening paragraph!

Yes, we are now in a lower division than when Owen Oyston bought the club in 1987. The owner said in his recent open letter in the Gazette that he is trying to repair the damage done in recent seasons, which is to be commended – but let us not forget that this is a mess largely of the Oystons’ own making. The paradox of a “cash rich” club plummeting down the divisions is quite unacceptable to the fanbase. Blackpool FC is a football club first and foremost. There is no virtue in being a “good, solid, resilient business” if you’re heading towards the hatch to drop into non-league football!

Watching Karl Oyston’s TV interview on Wednesday brought on a growing sense of horror. Of course we only got selected highlights, but they weren’t edifying. “We’ve built from a low base before and I’m sure we can build from a low base again.” Last time, the Belokon millions helped propel the club forward. Given that the Oyston millions have been “there if needed” but have remained miraculously untouched for the last four disastrous seasons, we don’t see anything significant changing for the better this year. It could all have been so different. That perceived mismanagement – and the subsequent suing of fans for demonstrating against it – has brought us to where we are.

If anything, the owners are more likely to pare back investment still further, pointing to the impact of the ethical boycott, falling attendances and reduced revenues as a justification, citing League rules about players’ wages not having to exceed 55% of turnover. But in fact the League’s Salary Cost Management Protocol states that a) there is no restriction on transfer fees and b) gifts can be legitimately included in turnover. Therefore the owners could, if they wished, gift a few million back into active service for building a truly competitive team, thereby kick-starting the footballing revival at Bloomfield Road.

Of course, improved results alone – even if they materialise - will not bring the fans back. For that to happen, as BST has explained clearly to Owen Oyston, either he agrees to sell the club or all litigation against fans has to cease immediately; Karl Oyston needs to step away from all involvement in the football club (that’s not bullying, it’s an appeal to good judgement); and a properly democratic fans consultative body needs to be set up, which every supporter of the club is eligible to stand for regardless of whether they buy a season ticket or not.

Then, and only then, for the long-term viability of Blackpool FC as a footballing force to be reckoned with and a club this and future generations can be proud to support, there does need to be a radical change in the way the club is structured – that means a proper strategic plan for the future, a decent level of investment to support the plan and full supporter involvement in the way the club is run. That way, success when it comes will be more than a happy accident and will be something that can be sustained for the benefit of the club and the wider community of Blackpool and the Fylde.

Blackpool Supporters’ Trust will continue to work for that radical change at Bloomfield Road. If you agree with our aims then please do something tangible about it. You can join the Trust via our website at: www.blackpoolsupporterstrust.com and help make a positive difference to the future of your club.
In the meantime, we wish Gary Bowyer and the team every success in the season that’s about to begin.

I know I'm wasting my time but surely one day something may make the penny drop. Of course we'll never get you to stop being selfish or stupid. :tophat:

So are you still duped by this cynical Oystain ploy of handing over your money or else it's your fault?

Put another way, why would you pay more money for a Ford Fiesta than you would a Rolls Royce? Season tickets are more expensive for a 4th division outfit than they were when they were in the Championship. You have been mugged off old doffer!

All the money that has been siphoned away from the football club will no doubt be sat in the same account your money is should they need to sue any more fans.

You are therefore paying to sue fellow Blackpool fans. But of course you being Mr Selfish Chops you won't care. Which goes back to the wording in the last 2 BST comms: ethics and conscience, you have neither!

Codger, I thought I'd get my reply in for Premier before he starts winding us all up. I don't have a problem per se with anyone choosing still to go, and I know you will give them some stick rather than supporting them. You just know what's coming from the old Oystain lover!

Oh and the No5 ceased being the Layton bus more years ago than I ca remember, it became the No6 and is now the No11. I believe the No5 now goes past your house - Lytham to Cleveleys. Although I seldom catch the bus, if I do it's the Stagecoach bus I catch which is 50p cheaper than the Blackpool (rip off) Transport one.

I suppose we have to subsidise all these flipping stingy pensioners free travel somehow!

I take it you mean give the Oystons some stick ,Not the team.....On ticket prices for those wise enough to go for the discount it works out less than £10 per game .....Never used my free bus pass. ... :tophat:

See that's where you have just proven my point. £10 a game in the 4th division whereby it was £8.48 a game in the Championship - 2 divisions higher! :lash:

Regards the bus pass, that comment was for Codger, it's not all about you! Me, me, me! There you go again!

Re-read your own post you refer to stingy pensioners.

Discounted non concession season tickets work out less than £10 per match, concessions work out at less than eight very good value...

More to the point which side of the fence did you sit? We know Premier sits on it! Wonder then you didn't spot him, more players than fans nowadays!!!

As long as you're happy paying to sue your former fellow fans!

Someday YOU too will have earned a bus pass with your Nat health and civic donations .

A couple of flaws there Codger, age is the only stipulation in getting a FREE bus pass. I envisage I've already paid more in than a great many who get it free already.

As for earning it. Women now work and pay into the system 8 years longer (men 3 years longer up to now) than your generation and when I say work, many of your generation had women sat at home all day.

I will also wager you a large sum of money when us baby boomer generation get to your age we won't get back what we've earned; free bus passes, free prescriptions, Winter Fuel Allowance etc.

Oh dear, wrong again...
age is NOT the only stipulation to a FREE bus pass,,,,it is given to disabled persons if they do not want a BLUE BADGE.
As for winter fuel payments, do you condone pensioners dying of hypothermia cos they can't afford to have their heating on?

In one of your posts you stated you only work 133 days per year so you are a part timer it would appear....

No premier I work full time hours doing long shifts. What that's got to do with you I don't know?

I'd forgotten about the disabled. You know I was making a point about pensioners getting free bus passes so that is plain point scoring by being pedantic.

And your last comment is pathetic. I hardly feel most pensioners need the payment or a bus pass. Especially your good self and Premier who can obviously afford to throw away good money supporting the vile Oystains.

The point I was making regarding all freebies was that you are extremely lucky you worked less years than we will and will also get all these handouts that our generation won't.

We do not get freebies we worked for ours week in week out, very few holidays in the early years..Some of course manage to milk the system but I know Niether my wife or I did nor do I think did Codger...we all on occassion generalise and it is not always wise

Still missing the point. I don't begrudge any needy elderly person who has paid in (obviously less than others!!!). Obviously some of the other stuff that was meant as a gentle bit of banter was jumped upon and thrown back as though I was being serious.

I suppose being a fundraiser for the Oystain's campaign against fellow fans you have to have a sense of humour bypass as well as having no morals, no principles or humanity as well as a being a po faced old doffer! :tophat:

:guitar: :aaaay:

Oh Layton you are wrong again. I am 82 and worked on after 65. I obtained contracts to work from home
because of my wife's blindness and dementia and I could not leave her alone. I only ceased writing aircraft publications at the age of 80. During those extra 15 years I payed my taxes ans self employed insurance so my free bus pass and winter payments have been more than earned and I have subscribed to yours as well!!!!!!!
