Bruce Won't Be Making Rash Decisions

I’m quite impressed by AB. He says the right things and his attitude seems good. He has a steely calmness about him. It was interesting that AB said (and I fully believed him) that he has no idea how much of the Nombe money will released to fund new players. Is this the first real look at the Head Coach role? Perhaps McClaren and Scott are in charge of that, and perhaps AB simply has to just work with whoever he is given? If that’s how it is working I don’t really like it. I hope they are at least speaking to each other.

You may well be right on this but I would presume AB discusses what style of play he wants and what positions he needs to fill and type of player too. SM and Scott then get those players in within the budget. It's just that it all seems to be taking time.

That makes sense, but if I were AB and there was money available from the sale of a player I’d want to know about that so that I didn’t have to continue wasting my time looking at trialists who might not be on my wish list.

Agree. Have you seen Paul Davis article explaining how we still have to pay some of our released players up to end of July eg Hugill who definitely will have taken lower wage. That might also explain reluctance to spend. Roll on 1st August
 
All other clubs are working under the same rules. They are still signing players though. Usual penny-pinching stuff from Mr. Doingawonderfuljob. The delay increases the chances of us getting relegated. It also flags up to potential signings that we are skint, have no ambition, etc., which is likely to be off-putting. Who is going to want to sign for us?
If we didn't keep signing old crocks on big wages, it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, it looks like that strategy could continue, given the identity of some of the trialists so far.

I’m not a fan of Paul Davis’s work. For me he’s too often an apologist who is reluctant to bite the hand that feeds him. Sorry if that seems harsh, but that’s how see it. Same with Radio Sheffield. At least on Football Heaven there’s a chance of a supporter coming up with something insightful. The July / August point - I can’t believe that is dictating how well prepared we are for a vital season.
 
Less than 2 weeks to WBA in the Carabao Cup and we’re scratching about still assessing several Trialists. Not an ideal situation and to be fair to Alex Bruce he did mention something similar in a recent interview.
I don’t buy into needing the cash from the Sam Nombe transfer to fully fund new signings although I fully understand and appreciate that it’s close season and cash flow has to be controlled. Payment for Ar’Jany Martha being at the World Cup should be due anytime soon.( every penny counts when you’re’ running a tight ship’. )
Now the majority of the high earners will be off the books at the end of July it’s an opportunity to rebuild . Another transitional season and another 3 year project…..:hmmm::rolleyes:
 
Well this all gets murkier. Jimmy Olsen might have helped by quoting the EFL regulation. I cannot find it anywhere. There are several references in the regs to the effect that a club's financial commitment to a player ends on expiration of the contract. All this stuff on top-ups etc and payments until end of July do not appear anywhere so far as I can see. Anybody know better? I've seen a couple of podcasts giving Jimmy both barrels on this for just parroting the club line (again).

Mike, Jimmy's piece is very clear contracts ended 30 June but that the practice of paying up to 1st August is 'common practice' and in EFL regs;

Radio Sheffield is s..t. Sorry can't put it any other way. Paul Davis does let his own opinions come out a bit more on certain social media. He is ok.
