I'm in Sorrento in Italy at present, not out of having bought the holiday myself but having been treated by the kids (Love 'em) as a retirement present (Awwwww.....). We chose Sorrento 38 years ago to be our honeymoon destination and really loved the place. Having returned in the nice hot sun and seen the same Hotel as 38 years ago, now very much a top notch destination, I can't see much of a challenge coming to it from the UK. Having said that though, with the weather we have had in the UK lately and having taken the boat out to Cardiff bay with a mate on Saturday before flying here, we had a really great day. Do you lot like the UK as a destination? or would you always opt for somewhere abroad?

OK, many of you already live in places other than the UK, so would you swop your country for the UK? (I can sort of already imagine '80's' response ..... maybe, but maybe not).

Greek Islands, love 'em, particularly Crete and Kefalonia.
Flying out to Crete the day before we play the scum, can't wait.

Love the Amalfi coast. Have stayed in Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. It always seems more exciting to vacation abroad. We have some great places here in Canada so we try to do one domestic and one foreign holiday each year.

what's a holiday? Neither unfortunately - had to buy a new roof

With you Chiv - love the Greek Islands, been to many. Love Aegina, been there a few times - working island (agriculture, honey, pistaschios, boat building...etc) with lots of weekending Athenians

really want to go to Sicily and one day do the Blues and Jazz heritage tour from New Orleans to Chicago

Never mind 'ST2, the new roof will pay dividends come the winter, needs must eh?

Although I would personally chose to go abroad, I think a lot take our own island for granted. We have some genuinely fantastic beaches and as city breaks go (i live there so it doesnt count) there is more to do in London then most other European cities!

If I had young kids of my own, I'd definitely holiday them around this country (or the UK to be more specific) so the experienced the beauty of our own little island before adventuring outside it!

I have to say, we did the same when the kids were young. We had a large old caravan and we went most places in it. Because it was old, it didn't matter if it got messed up a bit and we didn't lose any money on it as it didn't cost us too much. I 'modernised' it myself to a good degree, put in electricity! (-yeah modern stuff!) added a shower etc and it was great forcoming off the beach and cooking etc. The kids loved it and it was a cheap holiday. We kept the going abroad bit until they were older and could appreciate the amount we were spending on them. They did thank us for it when they were older and often mention it now they have their own families.
