Bristol City v Villa Match Thread

Exactly, his head is really on the block now. He has set the standard, four goals no less!

Will be an interesting team selection given the fact he's had 22 players put in solid performances over the past 3 days.

Think last night should be taken with a pinch of salt however, as it was against Wigan reserves, but I'd be surprised if Hogan and possibly De Laet haven't put themselves in contention.

Other than that, I expect 9 of the same 11 as on Saturday.

Johnstone

De Laet
Chester
Terry
Taylor

Elmohamady
Whelan
Hourihane
Green

Hogan
Davis

Subs -

Steer
Elphick
Hutton
Bree
Adomah
Bjarnasson
Lansbury

I'm assuming Onomah and Jedi will still be unavailable.

We need to be winnning games like this.
Millwall got a 0-0 there at the weekend so they aren't anything special
0-2 away win

Big test for us as our away form remains our achilles heel.

A win would really ramp up the confidence and positivity.

Like everyone else, I certainly have enjoyed the last two games.

In terms of reality, the last two games we have played have been at Villa Park against a decent Norwich who looked good in possession but fragile at the back and a Wigan team who I understand made 11 changes from their last game. Yes I know we made loads of changes as well but our younger and fringe players were always going to be better than Wigans.

After 18 years of defensive minded approach as a manager has Steve Bruce finally seen the light and enjoyed the compliments he has received over our attacking approach? For the good sake of Steve and the club I sincerely hope so!?

As SirDennis states it's Villa's away form that is the Achilles Heel so this is a big test and I could even accept a defeat at Bristol provided the team put up a good fighting performance with attacking football with signs of improvement, however, the die has been cast we want a minimum of 4 goals :17:

Good Luck to The Villa Boys :94:

Bristol City are awful, so if there was ever a chance to turn around the away form this would be it.

However in front of the Sky cameras I'm never confident.

1-1

bit worried about some of these youngsters running around and getting forward - perhaps best to get back to Gabby up top and 5 at the back
(unless we can snap up any other elderly journeymen before the deadline obv)

be interesting to see the side when they are all available

The way in which Steve Bruce sets us up on Friday will give us a big insight into the rest of the season. Not entirely sure that the last two attacking performances will change the habits of a lifetime.
Like Deano I am am not confident in front of Sky cameras, one we could win but probably 1-1.

Bruce has already said there is no way he can leave Davis out on Friday , so I expect an unchanged side unless Onomah is not fit.

Anything less than 4 goals is unacceptable and Bruce should be fired.

Certainly the turgid shyte on show before the last 2 games is unacceptable.

Upto Brucie and the players he picks to show we really have started to move forward, along with playing some half decent football.

Bristol C 1 Villa 3

The only thing we have to worry about between now and Friday is that Mutton & Flabby were not involved in the Carabao cup game and could be included in the squad/team on Friday.

This would be a tremendous own goal with the majority on here for Bruce to make (any thoughts Sasquatch?) Finally lots of players have stuck their hands up as wanting to play, leaving Mr Bruce with a nice selection problem. Still not convinced he is the man, but a few more performances (esp away from home) will go a long way to alleviating any concerns I may have about his style/selection/substitution issues.

Rumours that Snodgrass was at the ground last night - any confirmation in the rumour mill?

My biggest fears are that Steve Bruce will start with Hutton ( he played De Laet & Bree against Wigan) when it's blindingly obvious to everyone else he is a weak link continually caught out of position, knackered after 60 minutes and runs fast with the ball with no end result and also play Agbonlahor alongside Davis.

Agbonlahor shouldn't even be talked about at Aston Villa yet alone back and playing in the first team.

It's over to you Steve.....Have you seen the light ( hope so) or is it one step forward two steps back?

Looking forward to this one now train booked hotel booked but still no ticket :26:

Nice. Was hoping Bree would force the issue last night but he didn't.

I'd have O'Hare on the bench, he's looking great at the moment and when he came on v Cardiff showed up the others.

We really should have nothing to be scared of in this division. Let other teams worry about us instead of the other way. Especially against team such as Bristol City. Play the same as we did at home v Norwich. Don't change it because we are away . Attack!!!!!.

Win and it will be a happy international break with a score to settle against Brentford first game back.

If Onomah is injured is it worth Hogan being up top with Davis?. Always love a big striker small striker front two (Withe and Shaw). Hogan may benefit from this. Spinksy on WM the other night was saying Bruce wants to get a 4-4-2 on the pitch. Hogan and Davis is a more balanced strike partnership but I have no problem if Onomah plays ahead of Hogan.
