I did write this for Simon Curtis, and it was published on his blog as 200 Wordsworth in March 2017.

Brian Kidd was a product of St Patricks school, Collyhurst, and he famously scored on his 19th birthday to help United win the European Cup in 1968.

He joined City from Arsenal in 1976, and added to the group of those who had played for the two Manchester clubs; indeed, the following year he scored against United, to repeat the feat he first performed for them against City in 1970.

Two games in the 1976/1977 First Division runner up season stand out, and they both featured on Match Of The Day; he scored four against Leicester City in a 5-0 win, and Jimmy Hill made a fuss about a tackle at Bristol City; not something you need after a crucial loss and long drive home from Ashton Gate.

On retirement as a player, Kidd enjoyed success on the coaching staff at both United and City, and who can ever forget the joyous leap into Kidd's embrace by Roberto Mancini on seeing that legendary goal by Sergio Aguero to clinch the first Premier League?

It's fair to say that Kidd has made a huge impact on the Manchester football scene, and it will be a sad day when he eventually retires.
