Been 10 years now since he died.

I for one will always be a fan of his if only for the fact that he called the Villa "Us" during the European final TV commentary.

I never knew that he called us "Us" Lost_In_Ca.... you learn something every day.

I always admired the man for not only his footballing brain, but the fact that he spoke his mind. For all that, I applaud him. 10 years eh, doesn't seem that long ago tbh.

His commentary in the 82 final was excellent. Incisive and knowledgeable. In stark contrast to some of the inane drivel served up today.

best manager England never had. FA didn't like him because he wasn't afraid to speak his mind. I remember a game at Villa Park against Forest and the Holte End sang "We'll take more care of you Brian Clough, Brian Clough"

I luv'd Cloughie as a kid growing up, the man was just brilliant and he spoke his mind no matter who when where why lol, amazing manager just wish we had him in our history somewhere, but i remember feeling sad and sorry in his final year as manager of Forest, you could see he wasn't the man he once was but boy he will always be more of a man than i am lol, top bloke.

I wouldn't say I'm the best manager in the world but I'm definitely in the top one!

Some of his classical quotes are here -

Absolute legend if I remember right he was being touted for the Villa before Sir Ron got the job I remember being quite excited at the thought of Cloughie as manager only to be deflated when Sir Ron got the job never heard of him boy I got that one wrong. But would Cloughie have achieved as much as Sir Ron I doubt it because there is no way him and Dougy would have got on I reckon he wouldn't have seen a season out.

I echo all of the sentiments above, a truly great manager, a legend in his own lifetime, his name will be remembered longer than most.

Incredible what he could get out of mediocre players . Great bloke for telling it as it was.

I remember him saying "Young man I could play alongside Kenny Burns tonight and we wouldn't concede"

proper Leg end

I know he is not as likable as Cloughie and has had access to some top drawer players too but when you look at hos SAF won the league against Citeh's multimillionaires and how those players have performed since his retirement you get to see just how good SAF was too.

I admire both immensely, am forced to bow down to SAF's unparalleled achievements but still am far fonder of Cloughie, especially as he reportedly wanted the Villa job and only Doug's ego stopped this happening. With Clough at the helm back then we could have really taken on Liverpool.

Yes wasn't Doug supposed to have said something like - "there is only one Mr Aston Villa"? It wouldn't have been a marriage made in heaven.

I have a book called 20 Years with Brian Clough by Duncan Hamilton. He was a sports reporter around the East Midlands. Excellent read.

Yep..Great days, when football was brilliant. It will never, ever be re-created. Sad really!
