Vital 1st Team Regular
This could be seen as relevant for the ex-imps discussion thread, however I think it deserves a new thread on its own.

Brennan has recently been quoted as saying the following….

Brennan Johnson: “For me personally, getting to this point hasn’t been as easy as people would think.

When I went on loan to Lincoln in League One in 2020, I’d spent more than a decade with Forest without ever really playing regularly for the first team in the Championship. So I was so hungry for that full-season experience. I wanted to feel the highs and lows that come with playing 30-plus games — and I got it. I’m still torn up about how our season ended. I loved that team, and I kept thinking about how great it would have been to get that promotion. But when my loan ended, it had also given me an even bigger drive to push on at Forest and show everyone how much I had grown”.

What a season that was and I feel his pain in how close we came to pulling off something remarkable. Just shows that loan players can fall in love with a club in such a short time.

That was pretty much the perfect loan wasn't it. We got a brilliant, committed young player who brought a huge amount to the team, he got the experience he needed (and seems to have had a great time) and Forest got him back absolutely on fire and have subsequently got promoted and made a load of money.

Shame those are so hard to find really.

Definitely MA’s biggest achievement for the club - bringing Brennan in through his connections and using his ability in exactly the right way to benefit both us and Brennan.

I wasn’t MA’s biggest fan after the playoff season, but improving a young player like Brennan was an excellent example of MA’s ability.

Unfortunately his failings in other areas will stop him from being a successful manager at a high level. But young players like Brennan, Rogers and Fiorini all had their best loan periods with us and MA.

Jazzy George's biggest achievement. I would suggest Brennan's improvement was largely due to himself?. Ahem!

Brennan was signed on loan through the contacts that MA had established and hasn’t he made the most of his opportunities. I cannot recall any players arriving in this manner when MK was here, perhaps there was. I wonder if we will see any players arrive through contacts made by Michael Skubala or Chris Cohen.

At the end of our play-off final, I was struck at the time how genuinely sad Brennan looked. He sat on the pitch for quite a while, till a senior player-Bricett I think- went around encouraging teammates to get up. Always seems a nice lad.

I met Brennan recently and he had a beaming smile on his face when I revealed the 2020/21 away shirt with Johnson 20 on the back for him to sign.

Was thinking about that loan and how wild it was that we maintained him for a whole year. When you see say, teams get decent loans now like Port Vale had Devine and Arlblaster and they both get pulled from their loans.

And Brennan was clearly above a League One player even then, with some edges to smooth out admittedly but I think he could have been around that Forest team.

Yeah I think he would have definitely got game time for them. I guess it was our good fortune that they saw the value of a full season as an automatic starter over getting sub appearances here and there in a higher division.

I'm fairly sure that MA's connections had nothing to do with getting BJ in on loan. In fact I'm fairly sure that this was verified by CN himself.
