Breaking up of the banks

I was not amused when I read this, this morning. If it happens they can leave me alone. I am not being forced to change my bank and if they try it I will change back. I have been with my bank since I was 18 and I am perfectly satisfied with them.

I can't see how they can force this, though nothing would surprise me today

Big four banks 'could be broken up' to increase customer competition
......................................................................

The Competition and Markets Authority believes a forced shake-up is vital because the sector is failing to meet the needs of customers and business.

It says measures to open out the market, dominated by Barclay's, HSBC, Lloyd's and Royal Bank of Scotland, have not worked - and is recommending an inquiry with a decision by autumn.

CMA chief executive Alex Chisholm said competition was also "essential" for the success of the UK economy.

The big four hold 77 per cent of personal current accounts and 85 per cent of business current accounts.

No,,they need to smash these corporate giants to bits for what they have done, however you couldn't be forced to move.

Be interesting to see what they can be forced to do.

Two ahouls have been nationalised in my humble, the tax payer has bailed them out and yet the staff at the top still get big bonuses.

I agree JF, the banking giants need to be forced into change, however I will not accept being forced to change my bank, which I won't. I bank with 1 of the 'so-called' banking giants. Whilst yes including my bank, they have all been power crazed, I genuinely wouldn't want to change banks. I am happy where I am

:35: Thieves

I'm sure many of us would like to dish out a "bonus" to the bankers, receiving public money as a bonus for helping to destroy our economy, it's almost as if they were getting paid to do that.

But at least the focus is off their criminal activities while people recoil in shock and horror at the thought of having to change bank accounts :10: So many swim on the surface.

Mission accomplished.

Should have had a poll to this. Anyhow if you were forced to change banks would you stay with them or change back?

How satisfied are you with your bank?..

Me I would change back. If I wanted to change banks I would have done it without being forced. The service we have had from our bank has always been good. I am not saying they have never messed up with us, cos they have, however they have always put it right. Human beings/systems will always make mistakes. It what they do to put it right that matters.

I bank with 1 of the big 4 however not 1 that was/is in public holding. Does that make a difference?. Can't say as my bank didn't need government help.

As for the banks and bonuses I would like to know why they get them! I see no need on the millions the top bankers are on for them to have bonuses. I don't see the need in any of the corporations. If there is a good reason for bonuses someone tell me, however as it stands I think they should be stopped accross the board for higher management already on exceptionally good wages

I'm often surprised at how small minded people can be at times. This is a massive global issue which is possibly one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime and certainly the most pressing economic issue of the day behind climate change and this minute step in the right direction is greeted with outrage because 'I like my bank'.

I dispair for humanity.

Not about outrage and I like my bank, for me BB. I am not going to be forced into something I don't want to do. As far as I concerned it would be illegal to force anyone to try and change, as JF as said. I would refuse and tell them 'see you in court' I am not going to be told who to bank with.

Anyone who knows anything of me will know I would see them in court too. Yes the banks need to change, however forcing someone to change who doesn't want to, is unfair.

So I guess those who say it is small minded to force people, won't mind if they come along and change your bank for you?. Maybe you don't care, however I do. We get dictated to enough without being forced to change banks when you don't want too.

Quite right BB. I've been with Barclays for over 30 years, I know they are evil bastards, but I also know that every other bank are equally evil bastards. Anything and everyone to do with banking and finance are evil bastards. I did consider moving to the Co-op and their so called 'ethical banking' but look at all the problems they've had recently.

Kefkat I'm surprised by you. You are a professed christian, you should know all about what the bible calls usury. That is what all banks are. Banks, bankers, capitalism, is the contemporary incarnation of the devil. You sound very attached to your particular cloven-hoofed one.

I think people feel a little downtrodden and powerless to be fair bodybutter. People also need organising or motivating. It would take a maverick to get the message out, inspire people to rise above these monster corporations and most importantly WHY.

With decent leadership, people follow.

However, with banks, it is probably more a case of move from one monster and the choices are to move to another!!

People are also busy in their day to day lives, get comfortable with 'their' brands and find the thought of moving away daunting,

They have made it easy to change banks now, and power companies etc, but very few do. Must admit last time I moved energy it became a right hassle as well because despite so called simple systems, people didn't do their jobs right and it became a right old kerfuffle.

We need an uprising but maybe people are too comfortable and too complacent now.

We all have to have a bank of some shape or description in this day and age. Even if you keep your savings under the ''mattress' and no I don't, we all need a bank account.

I am comfortable with my banking 'monster' as you call it Sauat, yes. I have no intention of fixing what isn't broken, which in my case my banking relationship, isn't.

Where we live we still have the village bank in our area of York so we do get the best of both worlds, where we have the personal service as well as the modern world of banking. No they won't be closing our local branch either, because of the community size it covers. It's only just been refurbished.

The only banks I know that are supposed to be ''ethical'' (I don't know much about them) are the Muslim banks, and as I aren't a Muslim, I doubt they would let me bank with them anyway, even if I wanted too.

Like I said 'I am not fixing what isn't broken'

I know they are big but in comparrison to these banks they are tiny and still put the customer first so I'm surprised that more don't switch over to building societies for their banking needs. I know most have converted to or been bought up by banks but Nationwide is still out there. I have an account by a bank I really dislike in Norway but right now I'm stuck with them due to mortgage constraints but in the UK i switched to Nationwide many years ago and it would take quite an event to get me to change.

Porter: Madam, can you come this way please? The ship is sinking and we need to get you to a life boat.

Kefkat: I'm not leaving this ship. I've been on this ship since we left port and I like it.

Porter: I'm glad to hear that you like our ship but we really do have to leave. The ship is sinking.

Kefkat: It wasn't sinking when we got on.

Porter: Yes, madam, but it is now.

Kefkat: Well I'm not moving. I like it here.

Porter: It's going to be under water soon. I really don't have time to argue with you.

Ketkat: I like this ship and I'll sue you if you force me to move. I'll do it too.

Porter: Alright, love. Have a nice swim.

*Porter runs off towards the life boats leaving Kefkat alone in the ballroom of the Titanic*

Of course they would let you join an Islamic bank. Disappointingly, they are just the same as other banks they just jiggy some shit around to make it look different but under the skin they are the same. McDonald's and Burger King.

You should try to pay a visit to your local mosque. You'll be surprised how normal Muslims are. You'll also be surprised how similar they are to Christians, although neither side would like to admit that.

I love the last line about you not fixing what isn't broken. How would you describe a system in which the banks can be bankrupt and still paying their executives millions of pounds in bonuses? Where the banks run the politicians and so the entire system so that they can prey on the population without regulation? Where the entire country is run in the intersts of the banks against the will of the people?

LOL I love the script. Just 1 problem my bank isn't sinking. It wasn't 1 which needed public bail out.

We all have to have a bank and from my point no I am still not fixing what isn't broken for where I bank.

Yes the banks need to be dealt with at the top, however I will stay and 'survive' of that I know :14:

I have taken on much more in my life than someone trying to tell me where to bank. It is really a piece of cake, in comparison to my life story, to sue if needed :14:
