Bravo Two Zero

Vital Football Legend
Bravo Two Zero was the call sign of an eight-man British Army SAS patrol, deployed into Iraq during the First Gulf War. Their grit, graft, determination, bottle and fight for survival made men out of them.

Claudio Bravo

I don’t want to make light of the heroism of the members of our armed forces but if our number one goalkeeper had just 10% of what I’ve described then Manchester City would have the best keeper in the world. And yet, week in week out we Blues witness someone who really is out of their depth.

Is the Premier League simply too much for the 33-year-old?

Bravo began his career in the Chilean Primera División and then between 2006 and last summer’s move from Spain to England he applied his trade in La Liga. These two leagues are like ‘chalk and cheese’ compared to England’s top division.

Is Claudio worth the £17m City paid Barcelona?

Questions questions…

I don’t have the definitive answer, in fact Pep Guardiola doesn’t appear to know either. But there is one thing I do know is that Joe Hart is not the answer.

Everton 4-0 City (15/01/17)

Everton managed just four shots on target. Claudio Bravo didn’t make a single save. It’s not the first time the Chilean has been found out in big games. He was dreadful.

I've not seen the four goals that Juliet Bravo conceded against the Toffeemen yesterday - perhaps he faced four unstoppable shots? But the thing is - even if Juliet isn't the problem s/he is now perceived to be it. Barca did rather well out of the deal, kept their first choice and solved the problem of what to do with having a very successful second keeper on the books and the issues that might have raised.

Makes me smile, the power and influence of the internet.

A couple of weeks ago Ped, in one of his articles mentioned Bravo and Coco the Clown in the same breath. I then went and carried the phrase on.

Today, callers to TalkSport are referring Bravo as Coco. Plus, I also read the same elsewhere a few days ago. Well done Ped, your name Coco has / is going viral :008:

Yeah congratulations, who needs opposition fans eh? We can slag off our own better than anyone.

This place has hit a low big time, I'm done.

Nice knowing most of you. :009:

We have enough enemies, detractors and people willing to do us down that we really don't need to give them any encouragement by picking on one of our own players. The whole team has performed poorly defensively and he has been left horribly exposed at times so whilst he undoubtedly could have done better at times the Ped's chosen crusade to hang the guy out to dry and label him with a cheap nickname is unhelpful in the extreme. There have been many others at fault.

To be perfectly frank, Bravo is getting far worse stick inside the stadiums than he is on VMC from both sets of fans. As I have documented elsewhere it is terrible from a humane perspective to see him flapping hopelessly in the shambolic situation he has been pitched into. That said, he is getting paid an awful lot or money for the privilege to be in our nets and if the fans spending so much to support the side are upset I personally would never say they should not be.

Everyone is pissed off to see the appointment that Txiki and Ferran have thrown everything into crash to only 9 wins in 22 matches and it is totally understandable that tempers will run high. Unfortunately scapegoats will always be sought and at the end of the day the buck stops with the keeper to at least get something on shots coming his way. Claudio isn't. I think that if he had held his hands up at some stage and apologised for one of his mess ups he would have garnered more support.

I also think he is being badly advised and ill prepared by the goalkeeping coach.

I personally inside stadiums have gone mental repeatedly at numerous City players down the years and for me that falls under freedom of speech.

If anyone wants to put out an article advocating Bravo's continued inclusion in the side then at VMC you will always be assured a worldwide platform.

Bravo was Barca's first choice until we forced their hand KCT.

Sure, but the impression I got was that they were more than happy to let Bravo go and make ted Stegen their #1, maybe not dissimilar to Chelsea with Cech and Courtois. I imagine that if we'd have wanted Ted rather than Juliet we'd have walked away empty handed.

Talking of empty handed...

Feck's sake, BD, don't go. It's understandable it gets a bit heated on here but it is a forum and there's always going to be a topic which pees everyone off.
Get your arse back here. Misery loves company as the old saying goes. Let's all be miserable together. It will get better.

Btw, on Facebook City fans are falling out left right and centre. We have to avert a civil war because right now if am a Spurs fan I am thinking we are there for the taking.

On reflection Bravo was Barcelona's first choice, but even Pep has discovered that the Premier play a much different game to a one league Club in the Bundesliga and two club in La liga, We paid for Bravo expecting him to come good here, but if the Boss is getting it wrong surely you cannot blame Bravo for following instructions?

This defeat imo is not down to bravo and I think BD is right, (although I am guilt of doing it myself Gelson Fernandes) It does not fall right that we should always blame Bravo because we suffer defeats, there are 10 other men + Berti personnel who didn't do their job, but it is easy to lame the blame on the goalkeeper, he didn't lose the ball which allowed Everton to score.

I remember after Leicester we had this so called crisis talks, but surely it can't all be one mans fault.

City's defensive stats are in the thread below. There you see a more accurate picture. Unfortunately the on target save stats can't be broken down into routine collects or death or glory 1 on 1's but they do portray a worrying picture for the remaining 17 games.

Another issue in his defence regarding Bravo was the timing of his signing.

The club announced his signing on 25th August. He had already missed the first 3 league games of the season, missed another one after signing and had also missed 2 Champions League games.

He didn't make his debut until 10th September.

Not able to speak a word of English, he was plunged into the Manchester derby.

So. The timing of Bravo's signing, unable to communicate in English, missing a full pre-season and 5 of the opening games of the season.

The more I weigh that up it amounts to extremely poor high risk judgement and hit or miss planning from the Director of Football and the Manager.

No two ways about it this was an accident waiting to happen.

Our 3 opening league games conceded 3 goals. 23 have been conceded in the following 18 matches and 1 out of 2 shots aimed at our goal regardless of power are going in, then statistically, sitting on 4 clean sheets with 17 games to go, the Bravo experiment has backfired. Not the first time I have seen a laboratory reference on here this season.

It seems JB that everything was against Bravo, but Caballero following the League Cup success his confidence was high and playing well, again against West Ham he appeared to be on top of his game although the commentators were harsh on him as though willing him to make mistakes.

It would be better if they did take CB out of the line for a while.

He has to. That's our biggest defeat without scoring since the 6-0 at Chelsea under Sven 9.5 years ago. He is about to face some serious strikers on Saturday. Gulp!

"OptaJoe ? @OptaJoe
13 - Claudio Bravo has conceded from 13 of the last 21 shots on target he has faced in the Premier League. Update."

Bloody hell. I didn't realise how bad it had got. I know that some games we shipped maybe only 1 or 2 shots on goal off opponents but this is pretty harrowing.

Pull him out now Pep and bluntly tell the vultures he needs some time to recharge and try again.

I wouldn't disagree at all - outfield players are dropped if they are out of form. Normally it really is that simple. Pellegrini set a precedent with Joe Hart, it can be done.

I just have a feeling that Pep will stick to his guns - the decision to bring Bravo in was seen as so fundamental to his long term plan that he my regard it as a massive climb down to remove him (no matter how sensible it might seem to all of us).

I agree, I feel that we're at the Chelsea away 2013/14 point, and it maybe wise to take Bravo out of the firing line.
After all, the following week is the Cup, and Caballero will be selected for that game.
However, I still think Pep will pick Bravo for Spurs.

Its just the end of an era and Bravo happens to be at the pointy end. If I was the GK and saw that Clichy and AK were my last line of defence Id shit myself!

Im sure when Pep took the job he and the brass recognized the average age of the squad and probably wrote off this year. Any success would be a bonus.

New GK 2 new full backs support for Fern and a striker.$200m Get it done.

Bluedub. Settle down your contributiion iS too valuabe. Just think how the rags will fare next season with their aging stars if they dont qualify for the CL.
