Man City through to semi-finals
Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Manchester City (agg 2-4)

All over! Manchester City are through to the Champions League semi-finals!!
Some excitable roars from the visitors echo around the empty Westfalenstadion

Borussia Dortmund's only previous home meeting with City ended in a 1-0 victory for the German side, in the Champions League group stages in December 2012.

Dortmund have lost their last two home games against English sides in the Champions League (vs Spurs in both 2017-18 and 2018-19), having lost just one of their first seven such matches (W4 D2).

In major European competition, City have progressed from 14 of their 16 knockout stage ties when winning the first leg, falling against Juventus in the 1976-77 UEFA Cup and against Monaco in the 2016-17 Champions League.

In Champions League history, the side winning the first leg of a knockout stage tie 2-1 at home has been eliminated (15) more often than they've progressed (12).

After losing three of his first five meetings with Borussia Dortmund in all competitions, City boss Pep Guardiola is unbeaten in his last seven against the German side (W5 D3).

Grins all around the City camp as they celebrate reaching the Champions League last four under Pep Guardiola for the first time.

The emotion and energy in Pep's celebration after Phil Foden's goal, which all but sealed their last-four spot, tells us what this means to him.

The quadruple is still on!

Very good second half from City, a role reversal from the first.

They came out as a different side, more energy and more like the City I’d expected to see. They deserved it, there was good organisation and energy, very professional.

It was a penalty. I felt for him [Emre Can]. The ball did hit his head first but they gave it. The pressure was on Riyad Mahrez’s shoulders and he took it on – the penalty was despatched very well.

Their quality shone, and Foden was straight over to the manager head to head, as if to say ‘thank you boss for giving me this chance’.

'We were scared to lose something at first'
Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Manchester City (agg 2-4)

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, speaking to BT Sport, on reaching the Champions League semi-finals: "It means a lot to be honest, this club and this team deserve it. We are grateful for being in a great competition and reaching the semi-finals for the first time with this team. Obviously we are very happy about it.

"Today once again we showed character, we didn't play well at all in the first 15 minutes, we struggled and we weren't brave enough and were scared to lose something. That was obvious.

"After conceding the first goal we were able to get hold of possession and create chances. Our target was to score the first goal of the second half and get the game back into our hands. That's exactly what we did."

I was keen to see Erling Braut Haaland on his own patch and being more comfortable, but John Stones and Ruben Dias didn't switch off.

He's reliable, he holds onto the ball and the defenders were never really comfortable, he was always in and around them.

'We proved we were ready to fight for the semi-finals'
Borussia Dortmund 1-2 Manchester City (agg 2-4)

More from Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan after they reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time under Pep Guardiola: "We know how tough this competition is. In every single game the opponents are so difficult, everyone has quality and this Dortmund team has quality and can beat anyone.

"It was about staying in the game, playing with attitude and personality especially at this stage of the competition. We proved we were ready to fight for the semi-finals."

On City's desire to win the Champions League this season: "No-one wants to let this competition go, I guess if you ask Dortmund players, they feel the same. Everyone wants to succeed in this competition, that's why it is harder, everyone wants to win and be successful.

"But if you have the right attitude with quality in the squad and with the right ideas then the chances of success are high."
