Is it time to give King Chucky a go?

Once she's gone or abdicated, it's time to get shot of the lot of them (I don't mean shoot the lot of them!) and the house of lords and for this country to grow the feck up.

I'm quite conflicted on the "Lords" debate. Yes, democracy is the way forward but there is a certain attraction to having an upper house (acting as a "safety net, as it does today) that is not dependant on re-election and as such being dependant on both voter opinion and the good will of big business regards party funding, not to mention the influence of party fellows in the lower house. It's good to have an independant and more self reliant stage of the legislatoion process. I'm not saying that peerages is the best option but I prefer it to elected representation for the function it performs and as I understand it, this is the logic behind the inception of the "Lords" system.

Not got a problem with an upper house, I've got a problem with an upper house full of privilege, blue bloods, old school tie, church of england bods etc.

They play the system, they get a fair bit in expenses, one I know of (friend of a close friend) goes to watch a play, has some nice food in London, plays around, gets his expenses, does nothing.

Great!

But how to fill the seats in the upper house? As I said, there is a freedome in not being elected that fits well with the concept. Filling it with Lords and Ladies is, as you point out, antiquated but I'd not want them falling under the pressure of making decisions in order to be re-elected or the pressure that party fellows or big business could exert should it become a new career like it is in the USA. Our main legislature is elected and, therefore, answerable to the Country, I want my "safety net" to be truly independant.

Perhaps a random selection of the population, sitting for a fixed period, some kind of draft system, with a guarantee of fixed working hours, leave of abscence from current employment and a competance exam to ensure quality. And of course, no one should be forced into the job.

I'd rather a mix Villan, real people, business people and then one stand up comedian because if all else failed, you could at least have a laugh!

But you use the right word for so much in this country mate, antiquated.

Must admit, the older I get though, the more jaded by them I feel and the less I feel the need to worry.... What will be will be whether I stress or not.

Come the revolution though.................!

We should get rid of the Royals at all. Our heritage is based on having a monarchy. The amount of money the royals generate from tourism is outrageous as well.

Interestingly, the world's most visited royal palace is Versailles. Perhaps history can teach us what we need to do to our royals in order to generate the maximum tourism :10:

Prince Charles will be great for the Tabloids. Green issue outbursts, talking to plants, Camilla, his ears. What could go wrong?

:14:

I've got no problems with the Royal Family, the Lords and Ladies, or 'The Toffs'.

I'm more worried about the frigging chavs breaking into my house or mugging my wife on the way home from work, during these dark nights!

Much bigger things to worry about in this country than 'people who have more money/privilages than I do'.

LOL all these things do, is make the bookies more money allowing these daft bets. The Queen won't abdicate. I have no issues with the monarchy. There are a few I am not keen on and I would much rather the new King bypassed Charles and went straight to William, however C'est la vie, it will be what it will be.

No I don't believe in getting rid of the Monarchy, I never have, even when I loathed Charles & Camilla (which I don't now. I just find the whole scenario incredibly sad and of a time when life was so different, to cut it short)

If we got rid of the monarchy for starters look at the amount of jobs that would go and not just the obvious one's. The whole lot of people employed directly and indirectly by the royals.

We are the envy of the world with our royal family and I for 1 would prefer to keep them. A republic state like The U.S for instance not for me

They subgacate the meek.

They must laugh their socks off those at the top of society.

The Establishment really is impressive the way it has kept the status quo and have people still, in this day and age, bow and scrape at their feet.

Charles must be getting tired of waiting, his grandma made it to 101, he might never get a shot, as Diana apparently predicted he wouldn't, he must be thinking about pushing her down the stairs, or cutting some brakes...

When a child of the royals is born (I don't know whether this still happens) there is a royal astrologer at the birth to take down all the details of time date and place of birth. From this they draw a birth chart up from these details.

There was blind panic when Charles was born as they couldn't find the line of succession to the throne in his birth map chart.

I know this because of my Grandma following of proper astrology (not the twaddle in the papers) who followed astrology and the royals.

Time will tell if there is some event that proves this will be right or what?. The longer the Queen lives the less chance there is of Charles getting his hands on the throne.

The Queen's DOB is the 26th April 1926, so she is 88. Charles was born on November 14th 1948 so he is 66.

Another 13 years to live till her Mom's age will make Charles near enough 80. Speaks for itself really

That's really interesting KK, never heard that before. I had heard that historically the royals were into astrology though, telling the people to follow religion while they followed the stars lol

A bit off topic of the royals however here is another 1 for you, as that interested you: When World War 2 broke out my Grandma was in tears, as the astrologers said it wouldn't happen.

It was realised some years later that the planet Pluto (although discovered in 1930) was never taken into account when they mapped the world wide issues, and when they added Pluto into the equation and back logged it, they found out they would have known about it if it had been put in the equation.

Pluto is the planet of chaos/destruction and so on and was also in the correct astrology equation when HIV came to a fore. I am not sure on how often it positions itself for chaos, where it does in astrology (I will check that out)

Contrary to popular belief if you use a bona fide astrologer who works out your chart on date time and place of birth it is very accurate on your character, nature and can map events in your life, the same as they can with world events

If I put a smiley maybe I'll get away with it.
