Bob Dorrian: Retrospective

Scotimp that was a very very good read and I fully agree with everything you have said.

Yep, good write-up.

I think when you read everything that went on over that 6-8 year period, it hits home more. We all know what happened, but when you piece it together in an article, you probably appreciate where we've come from that little bit more.

An excellent truthful article well written. It just shows how much Bob Dorrian achieved during his tenor and without him there could have been no Lincoln City today.

I'd take issue with the whole "Moyes laid the foundations for the Cowleys'" take on events, but we've been over that several times..

That was a very good article Scotimp and agree with all of that. At the end of the day Bob got his just reward in seeing The Imps make history on more than one occasion.

Everyone is human and we all make mistakes! It's how you react and learn from those mistakes that are a measure of you. Anyone who does not appreciate the job Bob did is as you rightly say is small minded and should take a good long look in the mirror before they criticise. He leaves as chairman with City in the best state we have been in living memory and you cannot ask more than that.

Well done Bob and thanks for saving LCFC enjoy your retirement and sit tight for the journey still has along way to go!

It is blatantly obvious that he did.

In his 18 months in charge, Moyses signed Luke Waterfall, Terry Hawkridge, Bradley Wood, Matt Rhead, Jack Muldoon and Lee Beevers, all of whom featured prominently in 2016-17.

In what way did that not lay the foundations for the Cowleys?

Good article.

Highlights and confirms how much we owe Bob, not just for his financial outlay, but also for his doggedness in sticking around and not walking away

As I said on April 25th last year...

"It was DC who plugged the obvious holes in our squad first time with the right people, (left back, centre back and central midfield.) It was DC/NC who turned Power into an acceptable midfielder in the eyes of the fans. It was DC/NC who turned a knackered old veteran in Beevors into an integral part of the team before his injury, it was DC/NC who turned Waterfall from a ropey centre half into the dominating captain he is now and it was DC/NC who found a succession of loan strikers to play alongside Rhead rather than splashing out massive money for the marquee striker many of us thought we needed while at the same time reinvigorating Theo Robinson's career from the point where he couldn't get a contract to signing a 3 year contract in League 1.
I don't believe any fan thought Power, Howe, Waterfall or Beevors were anything like good enough to play in a promotion team during the Moyes season.

If they are good enough it's because (in my opinion) DC/NC made them so, and there's no evidence to suggest he wouldn't have done the same with any number of other journeymen full-time or part time players. He certainly turned Braintree into a difficult to beat side with pretty much the same side as he inherited."

Most of that is irrelevant, and some of it grossly unfair to the players concerned. If leaving the next manager six members of a promotion-winning team does not constitute a platform, I don't know what does.

Well there were plenty on here saying how unimpressed they were with the quality of the squad at the end of the 2015-2016 season.

Moyes could certainly spot a player it was tactically were he fell down.
We cannot deny that he left Danny some quality players to work with.
Danny bought more in with him , but the two main things he bought to the squad was much more tactical nous but more than anything he got them fit. How many times did we used to concede late in games before Danny came because we had run out of steam. Now we always seem stronger than the opposition late on in matches.

Most of that is irrelevant, and some of it grossly unfair to the players concerned. If leaving the next manager six members of a promotion-winning team does not constitute a platform, I don't know what does.

But every unsuccessful manager leaves *some* legacy of decent players to the succeeding successful manager that replaces him.

6 decent players doesn't sound like a lot to me, especially as Sincilbanks points out that it was DC/NC who got them really playing.
