BLADES v Swans at BDBL

It's what we are this season....v solid defence and pace on the counter. We just looked too keen to counter so made a lot of silly mistakes in our effort to get the ball out quickly.

Thought Brewster looked much better in his cameo at the end. He could be a v useful player for us this season. Much brighter and aware than previously.

Thought the same about Brewster.

Brewster may have a dose of lastyearofhiscontractitus. I can't complain if we get lively sub appearances like we did on Saturday and last night. Braindead decision not to pass to Rak-Sakyi though, which fortunately didn't end up mattering.

It should have been a bigger margin, but I'm not going to moan about a clean sheet and three points. We were comfortable against a powderpuff side, Swansea are a parody club, they played a bit of football under Michael Laudrup and now talk about the "Swansea way". Their sterile possession football doesn't impress me.

It's a privilege watching Cooper, Burrows and Peck developing like they are doing. And as struggling as he currently is, O'Hare's attacking of space was a big contributor to the goal.

We saw there was no colour clash between the two kits last night, so no reason when we go to Leeds in a couple of games time not to wear the full home kit.

We seemed unusually jittery especially first half. Really loose with the ball and we have to sort out those stupid free kicks and booking or It'll cost us if we don't. Second half was much better and we should have won by more but it's obvious that we haven't got a confident goal-scorer in the squad. There's 3 or 4 players out there who really need a goal to kick on, (like Cannon scoring 4 for Stoke last night ). The defence is looking solid. Anel's back to his best and Burrows and Cooper look like steals, The punch from Cooper and then that great save late on were all he had to do really second half but it gave us all the points. Sign of a top keeper that. ⚔️

I honestly thought we were lucky to be in front at the end of the 1st half
Way to many errors in our play
But, second half we definitely deserved the the 3 points, wanted it more
Do like clean sheets!!!!

Me too. Five on the bounce now. If we can get our strikers contributing more than the one goal they've managed between them so far we'd really be in business.

Last night was ok but really we do have to look ahead if we are realistic about promotion. There is a massive gap between the 2 divisions and we need to be moving towards the levels of performance and fitness required to come even close to surviving.

Standards need to be improving - all over the pitch and off it.

What we need to be able to properly prepare for the Prem is more investment. We cannot have a situation where the manager wants to add another striker and midfielder only to be told there is no more money.
If the consortium had enough money they would have taken over by now.
They are obvioulsy struggling to get enough investors to help push the deal through.
The Prince should start the process again and try and find someone who can properly finance a football club.

Thought they looked decent tbh till they hit the brick wall that is our defence 1 shot on target whilst having 66% possession is testament to how solid we have become,we all know where we could be better as do Chris and the squad I thought both Moore and brooks were a tad unfortunate 2nd half Campbell didn’t impress me but I’d give him slack as he’s not played much competitive football of late but anyone moaning at Moore and what he does for the team must surely have seen as we were so much better after he came on, it could have been 5-1 but I’ll take the win as we all will. What needs to be remembered is we have had a massive (sorry) squad upheaval and are playing a new system and we are only 8 games in we’re lying 3rd in the table the only unbeaten team in the division with the best defence for me we are well ahead of where I’d thought we would be and as this squad knits together we will only get better as for promotion I’ll worry about that when the time comes no point trying to run before you can walk.
Room for improvement? Obviously
But it’s not a bad start is it 🤷‍♂️

Spot on with Moore and as Raumy saysI still think O'Hare contributes more than he's getting credit far especially off the ball. I'd have loved to have seen him head that cross in but busting a gut to unsettle the defender was the next best thing. Daft fouls and bookings are my biggest gripe. Post next window we're going to start losing key players if nothing changes and at this stage of the season that's pretty bad for a club with our strength in depth. I wouldn't mind but most of them have been shirt pulls and niggley.

Yes the free kicks we gave away in dangerous areas was far too many we thought they would make us pay eventually but a mixture of poor execution and solid defending kept them at bay we won’t always be so lucky though, can’t see Souza not getting a booking sat I was amazed he didn’t get one last night that’s when the tests will come when the back up players have to fill in

Very little to say about that game. A nothing game really. Terrible atmosphere too.

But you take it. Get the points on board now, worry about performances later. We should only improve.

We had control of the game without being dominant, and without having enough possession. Never looked like conceding really. Had the chances to win 3-0. But when those chances are falling to Brooks, it's low XG - he can't score for shit.

Campbell looked completely lethargic and unfit. Offered nothing. Brewster much better. Can't single out any stand out performers but the defence is very pleasing. Right now I'd say Souttar is likely to win player of the season. Burrows is also highly promising.

Getting through the game with Gilchrist, Moore and Hamer all fresh for Luton was also a big plus.

I think the plan might have been to conserve energy in the first half, not concede, allow Swansea to tire and kill them in the second half, with a stronger bench than usual. If so, it worked. We just got a flukey, complete bonus goal right before HT instead.

It was a bizarrely lacklustre first half at BL and we have Luton, a harder game on paper, 3 days later so there would be logic behind it if this was indeed a deliberate approach.

Out of the 16 who played last night, only 7 were at the club last season.
Of those, only 3 (Anel, Vini and Gus) were regular starters.
To have started the season so well with 9 new players + 4 “irregulars” is really quite an achievement.
Yes, the lack of depth may prove to be a problem as the season progresses, but there appears to be no reason why the team should do anything but improve as they all settle in.
Interesting times, but over 82% of the season still to go.
To be honest, “owt” could happen.

There are a bunch of players we can expect to improve as the season goes on.

Gilchrist
Burrows
Arblaster
Peck
Brooks
Sakyi

That's quite a lot of cause for optimism because all are important players.

Well it defo wasn't a classic performance but we deserved to win and shudda won more easily in my opinion.I really like Cooper,Burrows and Sydie Peck is lookin a very good player.Hope Keiffor starts on satdi.Wonderful tribute to JONNY GASCOIGNE,well done to all who took part.UTB

What do we know about young Billy Blacker who was on the bench. He's got a proper striker's name, trips straight off tongue.
