Good morning all,

Some friends of mine from "The Old Fatgutians Cricket Club" here in South Laaandan have booked tickets for Edgbaston Test (They usually go to Trent Bridge). They asked me if I had any recommendations of good watering holes in the city primarily (as they will be staying centrally) and around Edgbaston.

I told them I didn't have that kind of knowledge as I no longer live in Brum but knew several people who would.

Any recommendations gladly received...thanks in advance FL

Ha ha ha Trekker...I would say age wise more traditional.......some may as the evenings wear on be in search of further entertainment......but doubt it

Although the organiser has come back to me with "As much as we like a cocktail and a fight I think we will stick to real ale" :14:

If they want real ale the Wellington in Bennetts Hill, 12 real ales and some other stuff. Never any problems ther. All the beers are listed on TV screens, saying light or dark and the strength. If they go in there, tell them to treat the beer with respect, it's strong. If they want aWitherspoons there's one 100 yards away, called The Briar Rose, thats ok, some good bars in that area.

If they like sport, cheap booze and cheap (but good) food then Rococco on Broad St is great.

If they like real ales/ciders then the Post Office Vaults on New St is cool.

If they like looking at fit high maintenance tarts and paying £5 a pint then Penny Blacks (or any of the other bars) in the Mailbox will tick that box.

If its a sunny day, then the Mailbox is a good shout again, or any of the bars in Brindley Place as they are both located on the canal.

if they want a cocktail tasting like pigs vomit and lots of underage girls then Island Bar is the winner.

Many thanks Gentlemen I had told them about Brindley Place but these suggestions will be much appreciated.... especially Deano's highly recommended ones which I am sure comes from years of research !! :14:

Moseley mate, then you can walk to the ground.

Or a cab is cheap, then they can pub crawl.

Yeah, The Old Moseley Arms, small but sports friendly crowd with real ales etc. 5 minutes walk off the main Alcester Road near Taunton Road.

Three or four all cricket balls throw between each other in Moseley Village.
