Former Player Passes Away

Bill Park, who played for Blackpool during the war years, has sadly passed away at the age of 97.

The half-back made his league debut for the club in the 1938/39 season and later went on to represent York City.

I rec'd a phone call from his daughter Sarah this morning with the sad news

I visited Billy at his home in Newton Abbot in April 2008 as Pool were playing down that way at Plymouth

He was a great bloke, had a really sharp mind and I loved to hear his tales from his time at BFC which he spoke very fondly of

I kept in touch with Bill and his daughter, sending xmas cards and birthday cards and sending him copies of the Former Players Assoc newsletters

In fact I sent him a Pool home shirt on his 96th birthday with PARK 96 printed on the back

Sarah told me that her Dad absolutely loved this and she told me that he will be buried wearing this shirt

R.I.P. Billy x
