Vital Champions League
ITV have confirmed that Andy Townsend’s contract will not be renewed when it expires in the summer.

The former Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Chelsea midfielder has been part of the channel’s coverage for more than a decade and is a regular co-commentator alongside Clive Tyldesley for England matches and Champions League games.

However, with Townsend’s current deal set to expire in the summer, a spokesman for ITV has confirmed it will not be renewed, with presenter Matt Smith also not being retained.

Reports have said that the 51-year-old, who once presented a segment called Townsend’s Tactics Truck during highlights show The Premiership, will continue to work as a pundit for other international broadcasters.

He had a good run of it, did Andy.

What a shite pundit. Mr. sit-on-the-fence, himself!

Unless it was a spurs game and he was firmly with the opposition regardless of who it was.

Michael Owen on all the BT Sport games makes Townsend sound as interesting and knowledgeable as Brian Clough.

Not that I liked the guy particularly but he could speak, unlike some of our Liverpudlian pundit friends.

People complained about Phil Neville at the world cup, but he was a great commentator. He actually informed you of things and for a change from other commentators gave you the belief that he had seen football before.

I really can't stand many of them especially the Liverpudlians ...
