Best gigs you have ever been to

Springsteen - Villa Park (1984 ish?) Tunnel Of Love tour, on stage for over 3 hours just awesome.
Thin Lizzy - Birmingham Odeon (1982?) one of the best frontmen ever.
Pogues at the old Locarno, think it was called Powerhouse or something? massive craic, brilliant night.
Big Country at Liverpool Empire on the Peace in Our Time tour, great live band.
U2 at NEC on the Unforgettable Fire tour, seen them 3 times but this was far and away the best, also went to Cardiff Arms Park on the Joshua Tree and they were crap, blown away by the Pretenders.
Moby, seen him live a few times and he is consistently good but on the 18 tour at the Hummingbird/Academy he was brilliant.
Andy McKee at the Glee Club on the Joyland tour. Just amazing, wanted to see him live for so long and wasn't disappointed.
Springsteen again, Seeger Sessions at the NEC, brilliant night.
The Police-at the NEC 1982 supported by The Waterboys. Superb.
Van the man, seen him live 8 times now but the first time my wife got tickets for my birthday and surprised me on the night. Legend.
Feeder at the NEC supported by Goldie Looking Chain. It was the tour to support The Singles album so was basically a greatest hits gig, fantastic night GLC were really good too.
Eels at the Academy. One of my favourite artists, didn't disappoint at all.
Jeffrey Foucault at my mate's bar, the Tower of Song in Cotteridge. Wanted to see Jeffrey live for a couple of years and to see him in such an intimate setting, and have a beer with him aswell was awesome.
For purely personal reasons my son's band played at Academy 2 last year. Very proud Dad!

Also finally getting to see Colin Hay live at the Academy in May.Really looking forward to it.

Been to loads of others, was at Brum Odeon practically every week inthe late 70/s early 80's, saw Gillan,
UFO, Saxon,Maiden,Priest,Sammy Hagar,Montrose,Angelwitch, loads of others I can't think of at the moment.

Blimey Mr H... not seen you in yonks! Hope all is good mate, stick around, you've been missed

(can anyone else remember, did we miss him or were we pleased to see the back of him?!?! :17: )

Just remembered we went to see Badly Drawn Boy in the small outdoor arena at the MAC in Cannon Hill Park. We only went on a whim but were glad we did as it was a great night, he was brilliant and a good laugh too.

Foo Fighters at the Carling Academy in 1999 - my first ever gig. Great small venue and zero chance of the foos ever playing there again now they are a stadium band. Its an all standing venue with a balcony around the top. Dave Grohl climbed the speaker stack to the top, climbed off onto the balcony, walked round the balcony jumped into the crowd at the top, went through the crowd, down the stairs, through the crowd at the bottom, crowd surfed to the front and back on stage in the middle of a song... Awesome!

They were also mind blowingly good at the Milton Keynes bowl last year but that first time at the academy was my favourite.

Saw Sabbath on Saturday. Not a huge fan, bit of a latecomer but was fucking awesome!

Other than that Faith No More twice in 6 months(Dublin and Auckland)

Radiohead at Malahide Castle in Dublin

Transvision Vamp at the Aston Villa Leisure Centre.

Bloody hell, that's showing my age.

Christ , as a 17 yr old back in 1988 all I wanted for Xmas was Wendy James - oh my god, she was a babe.

Most surreal gig I ever went to was Gorillaz in 2000. Just watching a screen showing cartoons whilst listening to music. Another wierd one was Fun Lovin Criminals at Rock City, Nottingham - you could probably smell the dope back in New York !. Also, Pogues, NEC 1988 - Shane McGowan collapsed drunk (no surprise) and was dragged off stage and replaced by Joe Strummer, who was support.

Worst gig ever, and of the near 1000 I went to, was the only one I ever walked out of, was Destiny's Child - just utter rubbish !.

Going to JLS's very last gig at the O2 on Dec.22nd, looking forward to that. Should be a good night, and a weekend to remember for my kids.

Bands I have always wanted to see, and never have,

Pulp - MUST see them, didnt go the festivals last year as I was sure they would announce a tour - hurry up !!

Def Leppard - just look awesome live

Madonna - should've gone when I had the chance in 1990 - far too expensive now

U2 - but missed the boat, I like all the early stuff, they wouldn't play it now

Queen - might as well see a tribute now

Oasis - one of those "you have to see them once" things.

Of all those though, its Pulp I want !!

Tough call really. Most of the best gigs I saw were probably when I was in Germany:
Pulp - Different Class Tour
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go Tour
Oasis - Morning Glory Tour

Although James at Wembley Arena was pretty special, as was Coldplay at the Emirates last year.

But, I've loved every time I've seen Ocean Colour Scene and New Model Army. Plus, even though they're not my favourite band, I have to say Depeche Mode put on a great show.

One I'm gutted about was I was supposed to see Green Day in Berlin around the time of Insomniac (I think), but it was cancelled on the night and they didn't come back :(

The Fear - 27/3/2013 16:56

Saw Quo at a concert in Sutton Park. I liked them on record but thought they would be naff on stage (as it wasn't the original line up) but have to say, as above... very good.

Was probably late 80's, early 90's though, before they became that awful pop 'thing'...

Was that the Radio 1 25th birthday gig? I was there, top line up including (according to Wikipedia, my memory's a bit hazy) Del Amitri, Aswad, The Farm and The Quo :43:

Yes, that was it mate. I'd forgotten The Farm were there as well.

Pretty poor, cold day if I remember right. But when Quo came on, they were very good!

best ever gigs:

KISS at Donington 1996 (Original line up, full make up, full pyro stage and effects). Just stunning visual and aural experience. Sensory overload.

Maiden at various venues over many years but Donington 88 they were awesome (KISS were special guests that day and the rest of the line up wasnt too shabby either).

Thunder at Hull City Hall on the Laughing On Judgement Day Tour was brilliant also. Met them at a signing session earlier in the afternoon to get some old Terraplane stuff signed, then met them after the show in the bar at the back of the City Hall as a fan club member. I mentioned that a local club just down the road from the venue was having a rock night and asked if they were up for it - of course they were. So they followed me, I got them in for free and spent the next few hours drinking bottles of Newcastle Brown etc, swapping stories and telling Harry James (the drummer) why his team Crystal Palace were shite All my mates couldn't believe it as I was walking in to the club with the band in tow. The guys in the band are really down to earth blokes with a great sense of humour. My street cred with the ladies sky rocketed that night I can tell you.

worst gig
Bon Jovi at KC Stadium, Hull on their Have A Nice Day tour. Last show of their World Tour, was a late addition to the tour itinery and therefore wasnt a sold out show. It was pissing down with rain on a cold Tuesday evening. I'd paid £60 for a ticket near the stage area and people near me had only paid £30 that night. Nickelback were billed as the support act but had already left the tour after the original last date at Wembley a few days earlier, so we got 2 support acts, the opening act was a bunch of school kids who had won a competition and the second on the bill act was a band from Ireland who basically ripped off every U2 riff ever done and had a front man with all the charisma of a dead fish. JBJ and Sambora had obviously had a major row and were standing at opposite ends of the stage. JBJ came out on to the walkway that jutted out from the main stage area to sing the first song of the night - Last Man Standing, slipped on his arse and was in a bad mood the rest of the show. Near the end of the gig, a few selected fans were allowed to join the band on stage to sing the chorus of a song, cant remember which, but then 2 girls run on to the stage to give JBJ a hug and he snalred at them "Some of us are trying to work here!!!" and had them escorted off by 2 burly security guards. All in all, very poor show which is a shame cos I have seen Bon Jovi many times and they are usually really good value for money

Not been to that many gigs to be honest, but by far the best was a Miners Benefit gig in Sheffield where Primal Scream played Screamadelica from start to finish just before its release and The Orb played Adventures Beyond The UltraWorld in its entirety too.....really was a night for that wasted generation. What fun. A legendary evening of the highest possible order.

As an aside, I am from Stafford and my old dears have always told me about these amazing gigs they've seen at Bingley Hall - in one week they saw Bob Marley and ABBA and a few weeks before that they saw The Rolling Stones. It seems to have been almost the Wembley of the Midlands back in the day.

Went to see veteran Metal band, Megadeth at the Brixton Academy last night. Mosh and circle pit heaven, devil horns to the sky. Came out bruised and sweaty with no voice.

If I ever grow up, shoot me.

People don't grow up they grow old. Keep enjoying.

Hard to beat a Mantovani concert - all those screeching fiddles....
Well, it's not as far back as that but two of the best gigs I ever attended were at Birmingham Town Hall in the mid 60s. One was Jerry Lee Lewis, the other had a line-up that included the Animals, Nashville Teens, Rocking Berries and the Barron Knights. Both of them cost less than ten bob each. (50p for those who never lived when we had real money.)
I've also seen Roy Orbison a number of times, including a night in Brum.
I saw the Rolling Stones in Belfast in 1964 and it cost a quid.
More recently, I enjoyed seeing Tom Jones and Van Morrison at Marley Park in Dublin last summer. And that reminds of seeing the pride of East Belfast in his THEM days back in 1964. Five bob I laid out that evening.
