Ben Stokes Oh Dear........

Well as usual footage has appeared of the Ben Stokes incident....

It's a shame it doesn't show the build up to the fight, and if one of the lads was threatening him with a bottle then it could be argued self defence, but there is a point half way through the video when he wasn't being attacked and could and should have walked away. Easier said than done, and who hasn't lost their head from time to time.

So the question is should he be removed from the Ashes squad. For me no, the video isn't enough to deselect him.

As you say, difficult without knowing what started it and seeing the build up.

If he was attacked unprovoked then good for him. If he was threatened with a bottle, good for him.

If he started it, different.

Just depends, was he attacked? Did they go for him? Did it then get his riled? Not always easy to be enraged then calm right down. Young men full of testosterone as well.

If he instigated it though, he's a knob.

I wonder who filmed the video? They were very fortunate to be in that spot right at the time the fight broke out!

I have no problem with him being in the squad, but not so sure he should retain the vice-captaincy if he was at fault. He's a great player - no question - but has always been quite hot-headed and strikes me as the sort who could start an argument in an empty room. Not really leadership material for me.

I think that would be sensible, JPA. Assuming he's not in prison, obviously. It might be difficult for him to contribute much from a cell.

We need our best players in order to stuff the Aussies. I can totally forgive this misdemeanour if it means we stuff the Aussies in their own backyard.

It's not crime of the century, but undoubtedly the whiter than white never done anything wrong will castigate him forever.

Edit.

Didn't realise the video was at the top. Didn't realise it was that prolonged to be fair. Thought it was a bit of handbags.

He could be fcuked on that. Yes he could be provoked but even if he was the other lads involved are backing away and view could be that Stokes was continuing it despite trying to be pulled away. If that's the only footage then he is in bother.

Still need that sort of grit for the aussies though. Still take him!.

Lol, yes I would have no problem if he stuck one on David Warner or Mitchell Johnson like he does in the video! :27:

The video doesn't clear anything up really. We have no idea if Stokes was threatened with the bottle or the bloke just had it in his hand. I think stripping him of vice captain would be fair along with the usual warning about future conduct. If that's all the Police have not sure that much will happen apart from a slap on the wrist. As for the Aussies I hope Stokes assaults them with the ball, best way of shutting them up.

Surely he's had no 'previous', but England has taken a dim view of it, so he won't be selected for England "until further notice". Alex Hales is in the same boat too.

What a good start to the Ashes Tour eh?.....

Then perhaps it would be fair to conclude he's a knob... but only 'apparently'.. obviously, as we don't have the full facts.

Never looks good to me when someone carried on when the person they are fighting is on the floor.

Even if he was provoked he should know better and walk away.. he is an international sportsman and should know he is supposed to be a role model and is going to have the media on him if he does anything like this. And yes he deserves to be out of the England squad, violence should not be condoned especially not for those who are supposed to be representing our country
