The Fear

A Wise Man (once sat next to him)
Wow, this is disgraceful

Not for Scottish independence talk we a he a thread on that, this is specifically the doctoring and lying by this reporter/BBC ...

Caught red handed huh?

Should be sacked unless this has been doctored in some way, can't see that it has though.

Interesting. I remember seeing the first short clip on tv, but not the second. It may be manipulation, it may not, who knows...... specially this time of the morning.

Eh? I don't think it is doctored, I think Robinson is saying he didn't answer his question directly, not that he said nothing.

But the question was answered twice.what Robinson should have said, if that is the case wurzel, I asked twice, he answered twice, but not what I'd asked.

That above looks awful . It looks like he was totally blanked and got no response.

I've listened to that "answer" twice now and can't find the bit where he answers the question, "why should the voters trust you, a politician, rather than leaders of industry". The nearest he gets is a vague and unsubstatiated referance to govnment representatives asking industrial leaders to falaciously make statements on behalf of the "no" campaign. This doesn't mean it happened though so he has neither enhanced his own credibility nor reduced the credibility og the industrial leaders with his comments, which I believe was a fairly obvious invitation intended in the formation of the question. Ergo, he didn't answer the question and Nick Robinson's remarks on his edit were correct if a little misleading.

Personally I believe that Robinson's remarks make it sound like Salmond refused to answer him, which is clearly not the case, but technically Robinson is right, Salmond was sarcastic about the BBC whilst not actually providing an answer to the question asked. He did answer Robinson's first question but Robinson's edit didn't show that question and as such there was never any implication that that particular question was not answered.

"There was a time when a clear case of factual manipulation by a BBC reporter like this would have been a sacking matter at the corporation"

Surely you mean promotion?

British Bullshitting Collective, nothing changes.

It's a very bad cut job Villan, he answered he might not have answered as Robinson wanted but the answer was there talking about some of the big industry figures, the misdirection of the BBC on points etc.

The way he did it was a stitch up, as I say above, he could have said 'the question wasn't directly answered' but to say he didn't answer and not show anything was poor, which politician ever does answer a straight question with a straight answer?!?!

Bad reporting in my humble.

I agree it's poor reporting as it sounds like Salmond completely blanked him which is clearly not the case, but I'm not sure it was intentional deception, just edited down to fit a slot by a reporter that was clearly not impressed. I think it's more your typical sloppy work rather than intentional deception, after all, his comments were, as far as I can see, factually correct. I'm afraid that top notch TV journos like Kate Adie, Jeremy Paxman and Trevor McDoughnut are few and far between. Perhaps they should send Graham Norton along to such press cinferances, at least we'd all get a laugh out of it.

Slot by a reporter or a strop?

It was a very poor bit of editing, if it was that short a slot, he should have filled it with something else.

Not a fan of Salmond but........
