Following on from the 18 month football ban for Joey Barton following his betting habits, the Football Association have confirmed they are considering ending their partnerships...

There is no proof that Barton ever bet on a game he was involved in.
With the games ever growing relationship, with several of the biggest members of the betting industry, the Barton ban reeks of hypocrisy.

Yes there is lol he admitted it - he just didn't bet to lose on a game he was involved in and they were minimal overall compared to the bets he did place. But the number of them was why the ban was so lengthy as a single instance carries roughly 6 months punishment.

There's certainly a disconnect though although the FA have said the report was ordered ahead of the season and not in response, but that doesn't make Barton's point any weaker.

Sport and betting goes hand in hand, if it does then make it simple - no player can bet on anything in their applicable division or Cup competitions whilst they are involved in them in any capacity. Betting outside of that is fine and dandy.

Makes life far simpler for all.

The rules are already simple tbh:
everyone involved in football, from the players and managers, to the match officials and club staff -
are prohibited from betting, either directly or indirectly, on any football match or competition that takes place anywhere in the world.

Barton is a gobshite - simple as that

In the current economic climate the FA are fucking lucky they can be so picky on sponsorship, I'm pretty sure if Mr Fear was offered sponsorship from a nationwide company selling (almost) anything he would be grateful.

Wankers

A rethink is ridiculous just because a player was caught cheating or abusing gambling.

Ridiculous if it was re-thought because of gambling addicts in the game or (as per the drinking bit) alcoholics.

IF they stopped advertising or having partnerships, the same players IF they are that way inclined will still end up cheating, becoming gambling addicts etc.

This world wants to cotton wool suit us all, sadly it can't and some people will abuse what is out there and others will become hurt or victims.

It's life.

Barton's been caught, he's been banned, end of for me.

For sure. We'd take it if the FA won't. Recession stopped us getting sponsorship!

Only adverts I've ever made it clear to our agencies I won't take are the Wonga type things.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous - a non-story.

Player gets ban for systematically breaching betting rules. Good, so he bloody well should.

Whether the FA are in bed with betting companies, or beer producers, or whoever really doesn't matter. Someone has been found/caught breaking the rules and they have been found to have been doing it for quite some time. He's been punished. 6 months, 18 months, irrelevant.

This is only a 'story' because he's at the arse end of his career and is claiming he's basically being forced to retire. A career spent, by the way, making headlines for all the wrong reasons. I'll be glad to see the back of the tosspot. I have no sympathy with Barton, who is a vile piece of work and has show that time and again.

Agree with JF - players minded to bet/drink/whatever will do so whether the FA have relations with these kinds of companies or not.

In the end of the day, money talks. I can't see the FA turning down millions from the betting companies but even if they did, television advertising during football matches is saturated with betting ads. Poor old Ray Winstone would be back on the dole queue.
