Barry signs for baggies

He clearly wants that Premier League appearance record and doesn't give a shit who he has to join to get it.

But still... :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21: :21:

Perfectly sensible move. He wants Giggs' record.

Are some still upset he moved on after being given promises and won things. He gave us an extra year, just like Delph gave us a fee but hey believe the Sun or the Daily Fail if it suits you.

Some of us know better.

No good to us anyway as we already have the oldest team in the league.

If we hadn't signed Whelan he would have been ok.

No it doesn't.

Those who criticised him by believing the headlines will feel slighted and maybe Barry leans on that respect towards him.

For those whose got what went on, this move is about putting himself into history and he has my applause for that Silhill.

I wish him well at West Brom given all he gave us and I'll toast him when he breaks Giggs' record.

But I also don't think Ron Saunders was a shit bag for moving to St Andrews or The Hawthorns either.

He gave us a lot yes but he stabbed the club in the chest full on when we had a chance to challenge . We gave Barry far more than he gave us , we set him up for a great life , we cheered him into the England squad and yes as soon as he got there the inevitable happened.

I know he wants the record and won't even comprehend the wba move significance (he's a Spurs fan after all and a Brighton lad) .

He could of achieved all this without the misfortunes of the blot of wba on his CV was my point. Not that he cares .

Nonsense, he was given promises and he stayed for the extra 12 months and realised those promises wouldn't be met.

He didn't jump at the first chance, he stayed and Mr One Way Of Playing let him down.

I thank him for the belief of the extra 12 months - maybe he got bored of blowing 4th place every year because our manager was limited?

Still cant believe some mindless morons booed and jeered him when he returned. Best of luck to him.

Best of luck to him. Sensible move and I hope he does well. Did massively for us. Pity Liverpool tried to tap him up but least he ended up by snubbing them.

He could have left but mon convinced him another year would get us into the champions league. Mons way of doing that was to buy Collins warnock and Dunn , a whole new defence.

Barry knew then that he'd made a mistake not leaving but he honoured the agreement.
With no improvement Barry rightly left in search of glory.

Good luck to him at the Baggies , he will make them a better team.
Better than us , I'm afraid.

I remember Villa v Ajax, I said to my then girlfriend that Barry and Laursen were so obviously our best players ... two blokes near us gave me the vilest 'I will get you later looks' ... oh well. For me there are too many precedents of allegiance switching to criticise Barry for going to Smethwick. I wish he hadn't, I wish he had gone somewhere like Burnley, Stoke or Huddersfield to get the 5 games he needs. Having said that, good luck to him and if he gets the record as I expect, it will serve as a reminder to all that Aston Villa are a truly historic record breaking club.

He's history, who cares where he goes.

AVFC did far more for him than he ever did for us.

Think we have far greater issues of concern at the moment than where an average slow player decides to load his bank account from next!!!!!!

Average .......depends on your point of view.
Slow.......they said Jan Molby was slow, he said 'no one runs faster than than the ball'

Not bothered. Baggies are nothing to me.

Barry will always be a Villa legend.

Different matter had he signed for Blues but don't really care about Baggies.

Cannot get my head around giving Barry stick for leaving us or signing for the baggies. Barry gave us 10 years of pretty decent service. Oh for a player with his professionalism with us now.

Get a grip.

Always completely bemused me how, they were close together when the moves happened, Barry got booed and Milner who rocked up for a couple of years then pissed off to City got cheered.

And can people who are banging on about Barry going to baggies just clarify their positions on Withe, Bremner, Morley, Mcnaught, Saunders and Brian Little.

:21:

The Milner comparison is a good one but I prefer the Mellberg comparison.

Barry -

Signed for peanuts
Gave us 11 good years
Left for a bigger club to win trophies
Made us a big hefty profit

Mellberg -

Signed for £5 million
Played for 7 years
Left for a pay day
left for free meaning a £5 million loss.

Barry gets booed, Mellberg gets cheered.... coz he bought the fans a few shirts. :16:

To be clear I'm not slating Mellberg. I love them both. But it just goes to show how wierd fans are.

There's some irony here.

If we were still in the Prem I'm sure he'd have "come home".

But if we were still in the Prem, people (like me!) would have been saying he's too old/slow/etc

For this division though, would have fitted right in to our team of over 35s. Maybe we'll relive our Victorian glory days, but this time in walking football?
