Barry Fuller

1 year deal
Pretty uninspiring. He's actually been a fairly regular player at afc in league since he was deemed not good enough for us, so clearly not useless. I think he's probably been brought in as a squad player who can offer leadership and develop youngsters also. Hopefully will be able to succeed in this role. Id assume he's not on much.

Really don't see the point in this signing at all wages could have been spent on other additions which are going to be more crucial, i don't blame Lovell if this is generally the type of player which we can go for sure does not look like scally is backing him this summer.

If nothing else, it's good to know that we would have an experienced head on the bench who can provide cover if needs be. Potentially cover for Zakuani as well if he's away on international duty.

Blimey. So SuperGills wasn’t bullshitting!

Average player. No better than what we already have. ‘Uninspiring’ - you’re right there AK.

This is SL’s job and I’m sure he’s a better football manager than me (although only marginally since I’ve been playing a lot of football manager on PS4). But this signing strikes me as odd.

Pleased he is back as he will be useful cover for O'Neill and was always a committed player before.

Not every signing has to be an improvement on our current starting 11 though, does it? We don't need a first-choice right-back, but we did need cover for that position. No, he's no better than O'Neill, but if O'Neill gets injured/suspended, we now have a known face with plenty of experience who is still perfectly capable of playing at this level to provide backup. That's "better than we already had".

As long as he's not on huge wages (and I'd assume that he's not), I see nothing wrong with signing him as a squad player

I disagree. We have no cover at right back, and this is a reasonable affordable option with a player who we know will give 100%. If Barry hadn't played much last season I'd be less keen, but that's not the case.

I agree with Madrid and EE. In the last couple of seasons an injury to our right back would lead to someone like Hess or Wagstaff playing out of posistion to fill in. A sensible move this imo.

I certainly dont see it as odd trashbat, I can understand exactly where SL is coming from here. It's just uninspiring really. As i, and others have said, he'll be a reasonable squad player who can add leadership and experience to the dressing room. An invaluable asset to have.

Unless he is super cheap this seem a bad use of wages. Yes he can be back up to O'Neil but surely we have some one in the youth team who is nearly ready to play that role.

He will bring experience and leadership but was it a good way to spend our limited budget ?

I can accept that we have a limited budget as long as people don't keep arguing that its competitive in this league. On the basis of the quality of signings so far it would seem that its not.

I think the only people who think we have a competitive budget is PS (Durham).

Our signings and their background certainly don't suggest we have a 'competative budget', but here's hoping SL has found a few players that turn out to be good business or gems.

Agree with Mark, I don't get the Fuller signing. If O'Neill replicates anywhere near his form from last season, Fuller will be bench warming for most of the season, and IMO that's a waste of our limited monies, however much he's on.

Who is the person in the youth team that's supposedly surely "ready to play this role"?

Have you seen him play? Tell us all about him please?

Obviously lovell disagrees.
