Banks and intrest

Why are the banks not owned by the public and why do we pay interest? The people that own the banks are have trillions of wealth and everyone else seems to be in debt to them.
 
I think a basic course in elementary economics is required.


 
That's the problem though. I rent at the moment and basically paying someone's mortgage. I would save money if I had a mortgage of my own but then I'm borrowing money to do it. It's a no win situation unless your lucky enough to inherit lost of money.
I would love to buy an eco house and come off the grid in an ideal world but i doubt I would get planning permittion or a mortgage to fund it.
 
Plenty of people have built eco-houses funded by a mortgage.

Thanks for that. I've just watched a few short videos and I'm already hooked and He talks a lot of sense. School would have been so much more interesting with people like him as teachers.
