Ball boys

Do we have them all around the pitch?
It seemed to take ages to get the ball back
I know Saints where skilled in time wasting
But we seemed to not get the ball back quick enough
I know this post is out of frustration but :011:

You're not on your own Colin, it drove me mad too, ball boy should have a ball at his feet ready to throw to player once ball goes out of play ( especially when we're chasing the game ;) ). Saints were adept enough at time wasting without our own ball boy's contributing.

It was enormously frustrating yesterday as they were at it from the get go, especially Forster. The pitches these days are in immaculate condition so why it takes quit so long to the 'perfect' place from where to take a goal kick eludes me.

Clubs can employ different systems for ball boys - fast ball is when each ball person already has a ball so that the players can be provided with a ball rather than relying on the one that has just come off the pitch (slow ball). That might have helped but they still would have used other techniques to delay taking the throw. Even without it yesterday they still seemed to go through multiple players before finding the ideal candidate with the perfect technique.

My solution for this would be for the closest player to the throw in to be required to take it. No faffing about waiting for the full back to stroll up - there was one yesterday when Fonte had the ball for ages after City had cleared a S'ton corner. He then dropped the ball leaving it for the full back Martina who eventually arrived, and Fonte wandered back towards his own half before being able to receive the throw in. He was the closest to the ball, he could have taken the throw. Simples ;-)

Clattenberg was very slow to take any notice.

The number of yards they were robbing on their throw ins was incredible too. I reckon that without fail every throw in their own half they took it from at least 5 yards further than where it should've been taken, as much as 10 yards on some occasions.

But even that didn't frustrate me as much as the ball boys, this is something we control and instructing the ball boys to be quicker might help putting a rocket up our players arses to quicken the tempo.

Something that did please me though was that for once the opposition weren't playing towards the end with their fans in it in the second half.

No but they do have a site called City Voice - https://www.city-voice.co.uk/ this is run by the club and you can voice your opinions, they also do surveys on various aspects of the club eg what do we think shirts and maybe if you raise something there they will act on it.

.

As Skoorb has pointed out, it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference if we'd got the ball to them quicker. They'd just have found other ways to waste time. I though the single or multi ball choice was a PL decision anyway?

It wasn't their throws I had the issue with getting the ball back quick enough, it was ours.
