Bale & Modders ; we should have won something at Spurs

There were many who argued at the time it was the best squad we'd ever had and that it was all Harry's fault that we didn't win anything - sounds like Bale might agree with those who said that here - repeatedly!

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale: Luka Modric and I should have won something at Tottenham

Bale and Modric won plenty of acclaim, but no silverware, during their time at Tottenham

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has revealed his shared regret with Luka Modric at not winning major honours during their time at Tottenham.

Modric departed for the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2012 before Bale followed a year later for a then world record £85.1million.

During their four years together at White Hart Lane the duo helped establish Tottenham as perennial contenders for the top four but they were unable to collect any silverware, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2010 and 2012 and the Champions League quarter-finals in 2011.

“It was a shame we didn’t win as many trophies as I would have liked,” Bale told the Daily Mail. “I’ve spoken to Luka about this. We were there or thereabouts to win the league and we kind of just dipped at the end.

Winks was a flag-bearer the last time Spurs hosted Real Madrid

“When you look at the team we had at the time, we feel that we should have won something.”

Bale and Modric will be reunited with Tottenham next month when Spurs travel to the Bernabeu for the opening match of their back-to-back Champions League Group H tie.

The London leg will not take Bale back to his former White Hart Lane but he is eagerly awaiting his reunion with the club that made him a global star.

“I have a lot of great memories from my time there; some not so great as well but it was a big part of my journey,” he added.

“I love the club and still keep in touch with a lot of people there and the fans were incredible. I really enjoyed playing in those big European nights at White Hart Lane.”

We should have won a cup but we were at least 3 players short of winning the league. Add Hugo, Toby, Kane and we would have walked it.

I still nightmares of that Portsmouth semi final and the Jan when Levy brought in Saha and Nelson.

We shouldn't forget that Harry made it very clear, they were his picks!!

God that Portsmouth game...every piece of shit under the sun was chucked at Harry after that; one-dimensional, absolutely no plan b, his blind love of 2MP, tactically inept, football turned from entertaining to dire crap,,,,blah blah blah..

The chants at WHL; 'Gareth Bale he plays on the left...repeat repeat' The jeers Harry got game after game and being called a chancer and a wide boy...

The joy that most Spurs fans had when he was sacked still rankles with me :10:

What made it worse is we absolutly smashed them the week before in the league.

Spursy at its finest.

Yep, recall it well, was at both games.

Not long after that debacle I went to one of Harry's Investec sponsored breakfasts - there was about 20 of us; it was one of the most embarrasing and difficult Q&A's I think I he ever sat through..it was a worse performance than the one he gave at the AGM when he was first appointed.

Easy to forget we started the inverted wingers thing under Harry, Bale adapted and hit new heights on the right under AVB but there's no doubt HR started that transition off.

I didn't want him sacked when he went but I'm so happy with where we are squad and manager-wise now so perhaps it's worked out for the best in the long run.

He deserved to be sacked after the way he acted in those last months. I wouldn't say I was happy, but it was the right move by Levy. Seeing what Poch has done compared to a lot of our managers, I can finally appreciate what a top manager/head coach looks like at Spurs. The work on and off the field is second to none in England at the moment. Imagine if he had Bale and Modric in his squad now. We'd be a good shout for the CL as well as the PL.

I have said it loads and loads of times, a squad that had Ledley, Bale , Modric , and VDV as the 'stars' , backed up by some real quality support should have won a trophy, it's a real shame that Harry didn't add a some silverware.

Pretty much irrelevant cos it's all in the past. We have a new crop of players performing to a higher level now, i wouldn't change that for anything.
