Awful news from France..

Another Muslim extremist inspired terrorist attack.

Condolences to the victims families.

Utterly tragic, but can't also but wonder when it will happen here.

Salman Rushdie, English PEN member, said: ‘Religion, a mediaeval form of unreason, when combined with modern weaponry becomes a real threat to our freedoms. This religious totalitarianism has caused a deadly mutation in the heart of Islam and we see the tragic consequences in Paris today. I stand with Charlie Hebdo, as we all must, to defend the art of satire, which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity. “Respect for religion” has become a code phrase meaning “fear of religion”. Religions, like all other ideas, deserve criticism, satire, and, yes, our fearless disrespect.’

Another Police death again this morning.

I dislike religion at the best of times, but particularly detest religions that are used as an excuse for killing in the name of God.

Sadly, I can only see this getting worse, not better. As has been admitted here in the UK already, the chances of us preventing atrocities get less and less all we can do is probably capture and bring to justice those that perpetuate them - of course why we tolerate the hate preachers that are still in this country and many of the mosques freely give their sermons even now, I will never know.

This has gone past being religion now though, Ex. I think that's just a blanket these sick and twisted people hide under to carry out their attacks. To be able to do such things, you have got to be a very disturbed person. They kill their own people, not just people who oppose/mock Islam. Last month Islamic state militants executed 16 Iraq soldiers, and this week 23 pro-government Sunni Muslims were killed after a suicide blast in Anbar.

Sadly it is all still entwined with one global sects/movements view of how the Koran is interpreted and how Islam should dominate the World and the way we live.

They abhor democracy and they abhor the values and principles of western Culture - we have imported and allowed this warped view of everything to now be embedded in our own Country, it's taken a long time for their so-called community leaders to come out and condemn theses acts of barbarity - even now in France there is a significant part of their Muslim community that are celebrating yesterdays acts of violence, which seemingly is also the case (at least from some of the social media) here as well....

There should be a day EVERY week, for the forseeable future where every single news paper in the West and their websites display a cartoon of Allah

It will just get worse. Innocent people getting slaughtered for no good reason. How do we stop it, can we??

It's hardly a new occurence, and we've not managed to stop it yet. :21:

Their very own Catholic/Protestant situ except their issue is only about 300 years old and getting worse. The West is happy to do business with the Saudis cos of oil in full cognisance that they are funding terrorism

How duplicitous are we?

- One with possible links to Al-Qaida
- During the attack witnesses described hearing the attackers shout “Allahu akbar” and “We have avenged the prophet”. Two witnesses said the suspects claimed to be from al-Qaida. One of them specified al-Qaida in Yemen, a group also known as al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

Nope, not in the name of a religious cult at all.

Jeepers, they must've been very religious altogether.
We all heard those deets but consider using common sense for a change.

Go on then, explain why I should ignore the 'deets' and go with 'common sense' (i'm assuming your version of common sense) instead?

Since there's 'deets' to show it was religiously motivated, why don't you provide some 'deets' to show it wasn't? You know, that's how this works, generally.

Ha! Calm yourself fella.
Just think back to previous attacks and them compare to this one.
Actually, why don't you read a little more about Al-Qaida and their "agenda" and suss out for yourself if it is religiously orientated, or if these loopers are merely using religion as a guise to wreak havoc on society.

Perhaps give yourself a breather there's, before reading my posts there's. You get all flustered and stuff there's!

Unfortunately I wasn't at the attack, when it happened :91:

But I know there's deets.

I suggest you check some of the more reliable sources online.
Begin at Le Monde's english version and work sideways.

The police have released information on the attack suspects.

So you want me to do both my half, and your half, of this discussion?

Stop hoarding the deets, if you know there's deets, provide them so I can know that this wasn't religiously motivated.

Hold on there webslinger, if you are that eager to find out what motivated the attack, make up your own mind from the reports.

There're plenty of credible sources online, without having to resort to spooning on forums.

There's plenty of credible sources to the contrary. That's why you discuss and provide ones that support your argument. Like I did.

Next lesson: breathing for beginners.

..and the news from France just appears to be getting worse, now the second gunman has taken hostages in Paris...

"Faced with the barbarity, civilisation must defend itself," Sarkozy said today.

And so the clash of civilisation(s) begins....
