From Sporting Intelligence's Global Sports Salaries Survey it is reported that the average wage in the Premiership last season was, £2.642.508 per annum or £50.817 per week.
In the Championship the figures are £195.750 per annum or £3.764:42 per week.
In League One the figures are £67.850 per annum or £1.304:80 per week.
In League Two the figures are £49.600 per annum or £953:84 per week.
These are average figures where some players get paid considerably more, while others get paid considerably less.

It's skewed by the 'big' sides as you point out.

But there is a generic structure to pay depending on division and experience which is why I doubt a lot of figures banded around....but as each year passes the bottom rung spikes up and that's why wages are such a joke in the game.

I agree Mike, in fact the survey does point out, that those who are paid the most in every league, are normally aged between 27 and 30, the ages where it is generally accepted that a player is at his peak.
Like you I generally doubt a lot of the figures thrown around but, in this case the figures are put together by a very reputable organisation, so I tend to think that they are at the very least, in the ballpark.

Yeah ballpark in the main unless claimed by tabloids - if you look at other ages and comparable players/size of club there is a rough pattern that implies they are close.

I used to do SI's yearly study as a network piece on here so reasonably familiar with it and whilst sense tells me they're not 100%, they've got to be close.

Where do the Championship figures come from? Couldn't find them in the report.

If the Championship figures are £3,764 pw then we overpay by a factor approaching 10!!!

The main report from memory last year was the main leagues. Champ etc came in a supplementary download.
