Average attendance

Impartiality

Vital 1st Team Regular
29 behind Coventry and our attendance there on Tuesday should mean we won't catch them, and they had a gate of 28,343 against Accrington to boot without that we would be top supported side in the division.

...and that was only because they gave loads of free tickets away for that match - AND then counted them whether people turned up or not!

Yes i remember seeing that supposed 28000 crowd woth loads of empty seats all around the stadium. Why cant the Lge insist crowds are given as per the actual crowd?? Its what always do....
Crewe were another one who counted people who werent thete.

We need a crowd of over 8047 to have more than 200000 through the turnstiles for league games this season.
Wow!

Even allowing for discounted season tickets, concession rates etc. at say £10 an entry we've got to be looking at 2m in league gate receipts. All boxes pretty much sold out so probably North of another 150k there.

Yeovil will be a sell out I would expect (around 9500) and will add about 35 to our average for the season

Going to be our best average season since '63/64- over 50 years since we have consistently seen crowds like this all season. I am still expecting to wake up from this dream.

There is no EFL2 ground like SB at the moment- not even close to it. What a time to be an Imp!!

It isn't just the numbers - the percentage of fans actively supporting through singing and chanting is the most remarkable thing.

Completely agree- numbers may be one thing but any EFL2 club would give their right arm to have the support and noise generated by the SB faithful (home and away).

Yes absolutely.....the "Singing section" is probably 8000 strong!
Ive not known anything like it.
How are we doing for average attendance as percentage of capacity?

My source says it is the highest average attendance since since 1959/60 (10,734). Can anyone verify that?

That seems much more likely. 1963-64 was the second season in Div.4 following two relegations and, although a mid table finish was something of a high point for the 1960s, I can't imagine the gates were up to much that season. A year or two after that I remember a gate of about 2,800 a few days after a 3,400.

Had a quick look through 'The Official History' and cannot see anything post 1959/60 anywhere near 10,734 average. Even 1975/6 was about 8,700 ?

I think we only need something like 1,250 against Yeovil to be sure of beating the 1975-76 average. I never expected to see that in my lifetime.

Arsenal do it all the time looking at some their crowds this season!
