Autumn

SKEGGY

Bringer Of The Seasons
Today is the official start of Autumn or as our American cousins call it "FALL"

Please now feel free to discuss the nights drawing in and harvests festivals etc

Thank You

Yep, Autumn. Darker mornings, getting dark earlier at night, crows crowing.... all the signs of Autumn and ensuing winter are there...

edited cos it keeps coming up with ????'s when I write it in Greek. I had tried to put Atumn in Greek on here however it wasn't having it

I don't like to tell tales skeggy but someone mentioned it was winter approaching the other day.

I won't name clubpaver because I'm not a snitch, but I did have to warn the user in the interesting thread there would be hell to pay if you found out.

Don't tell Skeggy who is very pedantic about these things but many think that common sense dictates that it actually began on 1st September......

Indeed, meteorologically speaking that is spot on, while others argue that it is not a set date and base their calculations on life cycles, the changing leaves and autumn fruits ripening, which this year was mid Sept apparently.

Ner Ner Skeggy :5: :5: :5:

Fall leaves have changed their colour
Winter's on its way
I'm lookin' for the sunny part of town
And leaving on, I hear the wicked cold winds call me
They say, don't fly away

Winter's Call by Badlands. Brilliant song off a brilliant album, well worth a listen

No, this 1st of sept thing is new, it's always meant to have been on like the summer or winter solstice etc. skeggy, quite rightly, is sticking with tradition instead of what the met office decided it should be.

Was actually brought up in parliament and one mp questioned when the met office had been given such power!

I've been on the planet a little longer than your good self, Mr F and I only ever got to hear of this 21st September approach on this very site.
You could of course claim that VV is educational..... :14:

Actually, Skeggy, the Irish name for December is "Nollaig" which is also the name for Christmas.....

I should charge really bbj, because you are right, it is I need a very potent educational tool.

There are a lot of tools on this site!!!

Actually BBJ if we went by the old Biblical calendar Christmas should be in October.

I'd imagine that in years gone by kids were told Spring starts 1st March Summer 1st June Autumn 1st September and winter 1st December so as not to confuse them. Thankfully education has moved on
